Why this Palestinian American believes Trump will bring peace to the Middle East

In a surprising turn of events, many Arab and Muslim Americans have thrown their support behind former President Donald Trump, believing that he holds the key to bringing peace to the Middle East. Despite the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the Biden administration’s staunch support for Israel, Trump managed to secure endorsements from prominent leaders in the Arab American community, particularly in the crucial swing-state of Michigan.

One such believer in Trump’s ability to foster peace in the Middle East is Dr. Bishara Bahbah, a Palestinian American and former associate director of a Middle East policy institute at Harvard Kennedy School. Despite being a long-time registered Democrat, Dr. Bahbah founded the group Arab Americans for Trump and campaigned alongside key figures such as Richard Grenell and Massad Boulos, a Lebanese-born businessman whose son is married to Tiffany Trump.

The decision to support Trump has sparked curiosity among many as to what these Arab and Muslim Americans expect from a Trump presidency. Dr. Bahbah and his fellow supporters believe that Trump’s tough stance on foreign policy and his willingness to challenge the status quo could potentially lead to breakthroughs in the peace process in the Middle East.

As tensions continue to simmer in the region, it remains to be seen whether Trump’s unconventional approach to diplomacy will bear fruit. With the support of a significant portion of the Arab American community, Trump’s presidency may indeed bring about unexpected changes in the pursuit of peace in the Middle East.
