The civil war in Sudan has been ongoing since April 2023, with more than 60,000 lives lost in the fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and various rebel groups. While the conflict has taken a toll on all Sudanese people, women have been particularly affected and are bearing the brunt of the war.
Women in Sudan are facing a myriad of challenges as a result of the conflict. They are often left to care for their families on their own, as many men have been killed or forcibly recruited into the armed forces. This puts additional strain on women who must now provide for their families in a country torn apart by war.
Furthermore, women are at a higher risk of gender-based violence in conflict zones. They are vulnerable to sexual violence and exploitation, which are used as weapons of war by various armed groups. The lack of security and protection for women in these areas only exacerbates the problem.
In addition, access to healthcare and education for women has been severely restricted due to the conflict. Many women are unable to access basic services such as maternal healthcare, putting their lives and the lives of their children at risk. This lack of access to education also perpetuates the cycle of poverty for many Sudanese women.
It is clear that women are disproportionately affected by the ongoing civil war in Sudan. As the conflict continues to rage on, it is vital that efforts are made to protect and support women in these vulnerable situations. Only through addressing the specific needs of women in conflict zones can there be hope for a more stable and peaceful future for all Sudanese people.

I visited Khartoum for a friends weddings in 2017 and stayed for a week. Despite the poverty and suffering, there was some mysterious humanity humility love that could be felt. The Sudanese are wonderful people, it is a pity that forces from outside working hand-in-hand with the previous and new government are hellbent on destroying Sudan for geopolitical reasons. You are beautiful, humable, wonderful and resilient people and I know that someday even this evil you enduring must end.
