In her talk, Avery shares insights she gained from conquering her fear of heights through her first Via Ferrata (assisted mountain climbing) in the Canadian Rockies. This experience taught her that fear isn’t just a barrier but a compass that guides you toward your next breakthrough. By embracing fear rather than resisting it, we can transform it into a catalyst for personal growth. She suggests that overcoming fear is not about eliminating it but redefining our relationship with it. Avery Cheng is a passionate figure skater, competing in showcase events and skating with San Francisco Theatre on Ice and Tremors Synchronized Skating. A freshman at The Nueva School, she balances academics with her love for the ice. Outside of skating and school, Avery enjoys baking, which allows her to express her creativity in the kitchen. Through TEDxLeadways, Avery hopes to share her stories and inspire others. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
