Opposition protest dispersed by police in Mozambique following contested election

Police in Mozambique clashed with opposition protesters in several cities on Tuesday, following the disputed results of the recent election. Anger has been simmering among opposition supporters, who believe that the election was neither free nor fair.

In the capital city of Maputo, protesters threw rocks and set tires on fire, while police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds. Similar scenes played out in other cities across the country, with reports of injuries on both sides.

Opposition parties have accused the ruling party of manipulating the election results to ensure their victory. Despite international observers stating that the election was largely peaceful and transparent, tensions have been running high in Mozambique.

The disputed election results have left many opposition supporters feeling disenfranchised and angry, leading to these violent clashes with police. It remains to be seen how the government will address the concerns of the opposition and work towards a peaceful resolution.
