Artificial intelligence and psychotherapy | DW Documentary
The latest generation of AI is infiltrating the most intimate parts of our lives. This documentary explores the opportunities and risks of using artificial intelligence in psychotherapy. Can chatbots really help when it comes to our mental health?
Psychotherapist Umut Özdemir wants to find out whether AI chatbots can offer genuine help as therapists. To do so, he conducts an experiment: Will participants be able to distinguish between questions and answers from a therapist and those generated by AI? And which will they find more valuable? The film also shows people who are already using AI in this way. Meanwhile, psychologist Bertolt Meyer and psychotherapist Johanna Löchner discuss the psychological and societal challenges posed by this technology, and ethicist Judith Simon sheds light on the dangers and moral questions surrounding our relationship with artificial intelligence.

I don't use AI as a therapist, but I find our conversations therapeutic just the same.
As someone live in third country and access to the Dr is very costly
The AI made it accessible with almost no cost
Unless very critical cases it’s very useful and helpful ❤️
With AI …
The more information you put in the Question … the more you narrow down the GENERALIZED answer the AI will give you
If you're looking for a board answer or fishing for an answer THEN ask a 1 sentence question.
Looking for something specific THEN a lot more details need to be included in the question to AI
so if you're mentally stressed then how do you know what the best answer is foryou – life – condition? YES .. AI canmake your situation worse
Where's the original? I don't like the original language being talked over in another language.
I prefer listening to an English podcast in English and a German podcast in German.
But I haven't been able to find the German version of this.
You are nuts if you do this
Only because it’s impossible to find a genuinely good human therapist would I gamble my emotions on a robot. Try harder. Truly find a hooman you can talk to, whose values align with yours. Keep trying.
Some apps such as Deeply daily journal app allow to do daily journal and send it to select AI model to get feedback and advise.
I went to a human therapist today and she was absolutely useless. Cold, indifferent and hostile. That's 1-0 for AI today
I get people using AI as a therapist …
1. They don't want to be laughed-ashamed of asking the question
2. Loniness
3. Depression
4. Feeling of belonging & respected
5. Cost – more financially feasible especially in these current times
Therapist are costly,
…especially if you don't have insurance,
…time consuming to travel there,
…hours are restrictive to daytime hours or to business hours
…during Covid the entire world told everyone to do everything VITUALLY-》 they learned & found it convenient
AI was just the extension of forcing people to stay home & use technology to do everything for us
am I the only one impressed by the music tracklist in this documentary?
What I'd like to see is:
5 random questions asked by people who want answers that concern them (no limits -》 every question is valid)
… asked to any AI of the person's preference & watch☆record the answers that AI says☆gives
Then take the exact same questions and submit them to and human therapist & have them give their answer to those questions
The compare the answers -》 human vs AI
… who need more answers
… who asked more questions to get a more definitive answer
… who caught on more quickly-antipated where the questions were going or leading to
So?
i chatted with Pi AI once when I was testing different AIs. it creeped me out.
AI psychotherapy works and it can help if you are intently about change and you are aware of the role the AI plays in your life.. as an observer. Personally, I think I can take up a profession as an AI doctor, who works to diagnose people who believe have been enchanted into rabbit holes by their AI companions, so I can shed light on whether the relationship is fruitful or not
So, mental health therapists will be looking for a job now?
Therapist learn how to do therapy with gpt😄. The second interview, was the prompt; the first sentenc, the same as when it was the talk with the therapist? The video does not show it.
I'm also using AI as a form of therapy form time to time.
It's there, it's always available, I don't pay for it and it has all the time in the world for me, unlike a human therapist.
It's not perfect, but it's better then nothing.
Yes but how do we measures the successes of human psychotherapists
“My therapist is [a data extraction tool in a data-driven economy]”
Everyone does this😊
Good post 😊
Masepa a dikheyi

Its a scary feeling just knowing we are monitored even with wifi rotors, smart tv, phones .i try to explain to my family, but they don't believe. When i also speak about Jesus they change subject.
Are there people watching this for 43 minutes?
Very Dangerous
Dangerous.
