Jon, you are pure joy🎉🎉
"My Favorite Things" & he certainly had listened to the great Mr McCoy Tyner, as Mr Tyner has interpreted the piece.
What a moment 🎹🥁bass player 🎶🎶love it
Jon and Steven’s conversations and his playing helped many of us to keep going during the pandemic.
❤
"You can have all the chops and no gravy," haha so true!!
Breaking news! That’s what musicians do, improvise!
Love this, but why act like it's news that improvisational music exists? Like Batiste invented it? I guess Whitaker has never seen/heard music made on the spot?
Oh how I wish this profile was longer. Or perhaps it was on TV but condensed here? Either way, I’m delighted to have watched. Every time I see Jon through the screen, I smile, even more so when he laughs. He was one of the best parts of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. It is easy to see that he has so much love in his heart for people, and the world. Love, love, love, you Jon!
Jon working his magic with some of the finest in the game. Bill should have known better to S/O Steve and Endea.
The saxophone sitting in the piano is triggering lol
Steve Jordan aka a drummer
'The Bass and Drums' ..Hmmm Those folks have names including the legendary Steve Jordan. I met Jon before he started on the Colbert show when he was playing at a NYC east village park in honor of Charlie Parker. Very humble as he is today. Great all around musician and composer. I hope one day 60 minutes does a story on Pat Metheny.
Did the interviewer just pop out of another timeline….where jazz doesn't exist?
Beautiful
shame on you Bill Whitaker for not naming the other musicians.
"a drummer" come on man it's steve jordan. dude's been a legend for decades now
That's not just a drummer… 🤩
Sir, how about you take a ride to Julliard, or NCCU, or where ever there is a Jazz Studies program, and listen to their jam-sessions…and, wow, y ou'll hear this exact same meld of the minds of the players…its not like they are moving mountains. Its what they do all day, half the night, and the next 5 days too. And thats not to say that JP isnt great, cuz he is…im just saying, dayum, have a touch of perspective. Its JAZZ…its only been around for over 100 years
❤

These comments are stupid. A lot of rambling all over the place without any cogent points.Sad
You must not have ever heard of Keith Jarrett
Jin is a great musician, but I play like that warming up for practicing and gigs
60 minutes has become a joke….let Rick beato interview Jon like he interviewed the greatest, Keith Jarrett
wonderful!
"there is no mistakes, it's all journey"
I love jazz, and am forever in awe and appreciative of great jazz musicians. I'm a classically-trained amateur pianist and I've tried to improvise, but am terrible at it. Agreed with other commenters that the reporting on this segment is odd though. If Lester Holt were doing the interview he probably would have been invited to jam with them on his bass, lol
