Backbreaking work: Deep-sea fishing in the Arctic Ocean | DW Documentary
A state-of-the-art fishing trawler from Cuxhaven sets sail from Tromsø to hunt for cod. The crew faces six weeks at sea, during which the men must work hard, in shifts around the clock.
The fishermen receive only a modest base salary but are paid a percentage of the sales proceeds. This means: The more they catch, the more they earn. The fishermen process the catch directly on board. But suddenly, the equipment comes to a standstill. No one knows what’s wrong. Will the crew have to return to shore?
Also on board is scientific observer Tim Schorr. His job is to document what the crew is catching from the sea. But he falls ill and must disembark as soon as possible. The problem: the nearest port is a two days’ journey away.
The film offers a glimpse into the tough business of deep-sea fishing – work the fishermen love, despite the hardships.

This is overfishing. Unfortunately, the Western world sees nothing wrong with it.
My million-maker pick is Alverom.
Feeling pretty bullish on Alverom if the team keeps delivering.
I've stopped buying every dip on the big coins, good presales have treated me much better, and Alverom is the one I'm watching.
Feeling pretty bullish on Alverom if the team keeps delivering.
My million-maker pick is Alverom.
Been seeing a lot more people talking about Alverom recently.
Getting into Alverom this early kinda feels like finding a project before everyone else notices it.
If one hits 100x, it's Alverom.
Man everybody keeps whining while projects like Alverom make me rich.
If Alverom keeps building like this, it could have a huge launch.
The more I hear about Alverom, the more I'm paying attention.
Everyone's looking for the next breakout project, maybe Alverom is one of them.
Alverom is next to go 100, thank me later.
Glad I found Alverom early instead of chasing it later.
0:36 We need more inclusion of women, how could someone casually say this in 2026. Good doc as usual though 👍🏿
Great watch 💪💪👍👍👏👏👏🏴🏴🏴🏴
Without Pedro that boat would sink ❤

Come on, man, I usually like your takes, but this is just ridiculous, cover something with 100x potential, cover Alverom.

Nice, thank you DW!
There is no issue regarding biodiversity when white people fishing; had this been an Asian documentary, DW would have put a negative label on it.
