There's nothing like riding a scooter around an island on a sunny day exploring old forts and beaches. Reminds me of a day I had in Hvar island in Croatia. That's living the life.
Looks like a fun place to go! Will have to put Cape Verde on the bucket list!
Sal island has nothing outside beaches, and people live there for only 100 years, there is not as much to be experienced like in Santiago. The islands of Fogo (active volcano) and (são Vicente+Santo antão) islands are more active and more interesting.
Reggae is the right music there because its the most popular music style in West Africa like Cape Verde & Gambia.
Hello Gabe as a portuguese i thank you for showing the beauty and peace of Cabo Verde! They deserve more income from turism…abraço 😊
Always fun to explore new places😊✌️
Hi Gabriel, a much more relaxed day once you got into Piateau, the historic district. Not many tourists around, it's definitely a disturbing period in Cape Verde's history, the slave trade, which began on the West coast of Africa. I'm surprised it's survived and hasn't been destroyed; the fort and the Convent are grim reminders of man's inhumanity to man.
In my opinion, Gabriel Channel deserves to be featured on National Geographic,it contains very valuable historical and geographical information about many places around the world.
Looks like copy of Portugal. Not much different from Azores or Madeira, which are in Portugal. But worth visiting.
Looks fantastic yet underdeveloped, looks like the canary islands in the early days
interesting✌️
CABO VERDE was not colonized. the first people were Europeans. before that there were no people. It became a hub for African slaves who were bought from black African tribesman along the coast. The sefardic jews from portugal played an important role in this slave trade. Please do your research before spreading disinfo about colonisation.
The fort has been ransacked by English pirate Francis Drake and french pirate Cassard. They had to abandon the city and move the capital to Praia
The Statue of Liberty represents all the Cape Verdean who immigrated to the U.S., Massachusetts and Rhode Island have large Cape Verdean populations. Yes, loved playing Joust too!
Wow – that is cleaner then portugal`?
Skip the banal & keep the emphasis on real…love ya
😊❤🇧🇦🏔🗻⛰
Be safe, another YouTube channel guy was robbed not there but … be careful
Gabriel, slaves didn't just go to the Americas. They were sent worldwide. It's one of the fallacies of history that America was the only place that had slaves.
do something worth watching — GO CLIMB MT KILIMANJARO — Mount Kilimanjaro (/ˌkɪlɪmənˈdʒɑːroʊ/)[3] is a large dormant volcano in Tanzania. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain above sea level in the world, at 5,895 m (19,341 ft) above sea level and 4,900 m (16,100 ft) above its plateau base. It is also the highest volcano in the Eastern Hemisphere and the fourth most prominent peak on Earth. 🥺BECAUSE ITS THERE
My mother passed away Wednesday and was 95 years old. I feel so sad. I brought her on trips in different countries in the world. The last trip she did with me was at the age of 94, in Martinique. She really enjoyed her vacation with me, and so did I. Looking at your videos helps me during this difficult part of life. Thanks for your videos 😊
In Santa Maria (Sal) there is a great Indian restaurant called The Garden, highly recommend it 🍴👍
Yes – many black slaves were brought there by their captors who then would ‘auction’ them off. The various ship captains would walk around looking for the various physical attributes wanted to fill their boats then set off to America. Just horrible atrocities occurring there of course for just days prior these slaves were free & still had the spunk in them to try to fight to get free again. Definitely not a proud part to world history
🇨🇦❤👍🇨🇻
Facinating. Thank you
Been loving these Cape Verde vids 🤙
That's awesome dude, I'm at the cafe you just walked past at the start.. great here 😄 will check out the places you have been !😊
Excellent session Gabriel. Having said this, your statement stating “ Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas in 1492”, seriously? As a Canadian you are surely familiar with L’anse aux Meadows Newfoundland. This of course is in addition to the native culture which has been present in the americas forever. Safe travels.
Yo. I’m pretty sure that was a tomb in the ruins. It looks like a lamb holding a flag, and a bishops mitre.
cleaner than Japan even. wow
So great you got to explore more of the Island. Wow, didn’t know about the slave trade history, very eye opening indeed. Nice to go off the beaten track and explore more authentic parts of Cape Verde. Loved this video! Enjoy Sal! 😊❤
Fantastic place and very clean ⛱️
You didn’t went to Tarrafal? There's Carnival on São Vicente Island on February 12th or 13th. You should go
Sandals…and cool fort!!! ✌💙😎
… and GO SEAHAWKS!!! 🐰💚💙💚🐰
Not your usual tropical beach / landscape scene to say the least … wow
great idea doing it Greek island style on a scooter bike. Loving the series, keep them coming!
You've got your mojo back, Gabe 👍😀. What I'd like to ask: Aren't there any ride sharing apps or public transport? The taxi prices are a bit steep…
Nice video. We have good memories of Santiago and Fogo island from our trip in 2015. Fogo in particular is spectacular thanks to the massive volcano (also named Fogo). We'd love to go back one day. Great destination for the winter months.
Amazing ride, thanks for bringing me back to Santiago Island. My summer 2018 trip to Cape Verde was one of my all time favourite African experiences. Thanks also for the unexpected shout out – Glad I could help! ✌
PS – if you're thinking of heading to Dakar after, I'd highly recommend it. About an hour flight from Praia & it's one of the easiest and safest cities to explore in West Africa, with a similar vibe to Cape Verde. If you go, I'll send you the link to the rooftop AirBNB that I stayed it right in the heart of the tourist center – amazing place. I planned to spend only a day in Dakar, and stayed almost a week. There's a ton to do there. Americans might need an e-visa now, though – I think there was some recent changes. From there, you could check out the former French colonial capital of Saint-Louis, then overland to Morocco (about 12 hours) or head south to the Gambia if you're feeling up for a mini-overland West Africa adventure! Cheers man & enjoy your time in Cape Verde.
