Lionel Richie Returns to Stage in Pittsburgh After Postponing Dates Due to Dizziness

Lionel Richie was back on stage on Tuesday night (June 30) a week after the veteran R&B singer cut short his June 24 show in St. Paul, Minn. due to what was described at the time as an unexpected dizzy spell on the opening night of his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.

While Richie has not made a statement about his condition or diagnosis, after doctor-ordered rest, the 77-year-old singer appeared to be in fine form in fan-posted footage of him performing his 1984 Billboard Hot 100 No. 3 hit “Stuck On You” and his 1977 Commodores No. 4 hit “Easy.”

The dizziness caused Richie to cut his Sing a Song All Night Long tour opening performance short last week, with a statement from Live Nation Chicago on June 25 revealing that the five-time Billboard Hot 100-topping star’s planned back-to-back performances in Chicago (June 26) and Columbus, Ohio (June 27), had been pushed back “under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health.”

Richie announced an unexpected pause nearly an hour into the St. Paul show at the Grand Casino Arena and then did not return to the stage to finish his performance after earlier telling the audience he was feeling shaky on his feet while performing his 1986 No. 2 Hot 100 hit “Dancing on the Ceiling.” After sitting down on a step and trying to walk it off, then taking a seat again, Richie reportedly told the audience, “When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down.”

Earlier this week, Richie’s ex-wife, Brenda Harvey Richie, issued an update on the singer’s health on X, writing, “Thanking everyone for their concern! Lionel is OK and will be back on the stage.” The 26-date joint tour with the “Shining Star” group — their third batch of shows together after earlier runs in 2023 and 2024 — is slated to run through an Aug. 14 stop in Austin, Texas. The next scheduled date on the outing is tonight (July 1) at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
