Could Lasers Help Fend Off Iran’s Cheap Drones? | 60 Minutes
In the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the U.S. military faces a significant challenge: countering the proliferation of cost-effective Iranian drones. These inexpensive aerial vehicles present a complex threat, requiring innovative solutions to neutralize them without exhausting military resources.
In an upcoming episode of “60 Minutes,” we explore the potential of emerging laser technology, designed to precisely eliminate drones from the sky. This cutting-edge approach could reshape the battlefield, offering a strategic and efficient means of defense against aerial threats that are increasingly becoming a staple in modern warfare.
Tune in as we delve into the mechanics behind laser systems, their advantages over traditional missile defenses, and how they might revolutionize the military’s engagement strategies. The segment will highlight expert insights, evidence from military exercises, and implications for future conflicts.
Don’t miss this in-depth examination of a technology that could change the dynamics of air combat and security in the face of rapidly evolving threats.

why u dont ask whot will laser do if u target humans?
To counter lasers, just make the drones with a mirror polished surface that deflects any laser beam pointing to it.
Wow it’s crazy how America and Israel started this war but y’all talking about away to stop them smh how about you talk about a way to stop America and Israel from starting wars
Just listening to this is crazy America attacks Iran and y’all are talking like Iran started it
They love it when the government invents problems for them to solve
Please replace the old lady interviewer! She should retire Long ago!
3:40 we didn't have a cost-effective solution ready because Trump put an active alcoholic in charge of the DoW.
I would not buy from a guy who was asked a very simple question about the use of his product and gave an evasive answer. Not having to bring the laser system inside during the rain is not the same as confirming that the system is effective in the rain. Shame on you sir
Why as such a question? Perhaps lasers could be used to destroy the US and Israel's arsenals…… Because that is what the WORLD WANTS! Report on that you fraud.
For reference, the F35 cost about 1.5 Trillion to develop, and each plane costs 120 million dollars. They are not being used in this war, because they are not helpful. They are designed for dogfights, but they lose dogfights to F15's and even older planes.
WHY IS SHE SCREAMING?!?
Laser weapons are the answer. They never run out of ammunition. End of story.
USA has sci fi type weapons. We can knock down communications and corrupt computers with viruses. Odin, Helios, locus are laser type systems. Infinite ammunition and cheap to fire. We also have high energy microwaves. USA growler jammers. Starlink/starshield encrypted communication, sensors, real time data and targeting F35 B passive listening for radar installations. Cheap Lucas drones with both Starshield navigation and Ai optic navigation. Fly and forget. Using cheaper weapons saving limited precision kinetic loud weapons for higher value targets. Ukraine now helping USA with 4 years drone experience Ukraine war. Gulf states as well as USA building cheap drones. Some drones 400 mph. Many over the counter parts. Many 3D printed. Skyfall, Droneshield, wild hornets ,
Iran has been fortifying the strait for decades with impunity. Iran the terror of the Middle East. Initial bad guys drones used gps which is easy to jam. Starlink/starshield very difficult to jam as satellites much closer, Leo, 10,000 satellites and moving at high speeds. Starlink used for encrypted communications, sensors, real time data, navigation and targeting. Also using Ai optic navigation, fly and forget. High energy microwaves for drone swarms
Odin laser is really interesting. Overloads camera and navigation systems. Thor and Raytheon phaser high energy microwaves
China is way ahead on hypersonic weapons. USA trying to catchup
Under Trump DOD helping border patrol with high tech stuff
Locus loaded onto the USS Ford as 5th layer
Right now gulf states buying patriots and drones
Surprised how propagandised this is for a 60 minutes piece, like this was an inevitable war.
I have the solution; don’t start unjust wars, morons.
The best strategy to counter drones was not to be a Netanyahoo's puppet and attack Iran for no reason
One costs as low as 20,000 dollars me a simpleton making the bare minumum wage so our gov can waste money
