Cooking up Christmas in the 1800s: A Journey Through Time to Savory Delights
As the chill of December wraps around us like a well-worn blanket, there’s something truly magical about preparing for Christmas. In our latest video, we invite you to step back into the 1820s, where the warmth of the hearth and the scent of fragrant spices create a cozy ambiance perfect for the festive season.
Imagine gathering around the crackling fire, the flickering flames dancing in the dim light, as we roast chestnuts to golden perfection. The process itself is soothing – a gentle reminder of simpler times when the hustle and bustle of modern life was replaced by the calming rhythm of cooking. The sound of chestnuts popping, coupled with the soft crackling of the fire, brings forth a chorus of nostalgia, filling the air with an unmistakable warmth.
Once we’ve savored the nutty delights, it’s time to turn our attention to the festive refrain of baking gingerbread. With each pinch of spice and swirl of dough, we uncover an age-old tradition that embodies the spirit of the holidays. The alluring scent of ginger, cinnamon, and molasses wafts through the room, wrapping us in an embrace of comfort and joy.
But our culinary adventure does not end there! We’ll prepare a warm mug of mulled cider, a quintessential beverage that captures the essence of winter gatherings. Imagine sipping on the sweet, spiced elixir, as your worries dissolve into the warm, fragrant mixture. The art of mulling spices is a cherished endeavor, making each sip a celebration of love and togetherness.
And what would a feast be without a hearty roast? Here, we turn to the timeless tradition of roasting meat, honoring recipes passed down through generations. Each slice reveals tender, succulent layers, paired perfectly with seasonal vegetables that gleam like jewels on the plate. This is comfort food at its finest, reminding us that sharing good food is one of life’s simplest pleasures.
As we fry up deliciousness in the kitchen, the crackling sounds evoke a sense of peace, drawing us deeper into the experience. Every sizzle and pop is a note in the symphony of Christmas cooking, creating a backdrop that is as soothing as it is joyous.
So, gather your ingredients, and let’s embark on this delightful journey together. With historic recipes guiding us, we’ll honor the past while creating new memories. This Christmas, let us cook not merely to nourish our bodies, but to forge connections, celebrate our heritage, and embrace the cozy essence of this beautiful season.
Join us as we kindle that festive spirit, one recipe at a time, and relish in the heartwarming comforts of a 19th-century Christmas.

Goodness, how big has Little Ron gotten already? Handsome boy!
The little red coat you made is adorable and that Christmas feast looks amazing too ❤
I like the ginger bread sissy that you baked ! 🎉❤😊! You’re a baker really ❤
Oh the house is beautiful and what a cute little sweet baby 👶 💕.
I'm so confused. Are the meals prepared in a different house? Then taken to the main house?
Road to 2 million subscribers bro Ron! God bless you and your you tube channel! Amen 🙏 🎉✝️🙏👍😇💐😎
Such a beautiful, calming video. Merry Christmas!
I’m an old soul too Ron! Kind of ❤🎉😊
Shout out to your new cat ! Cute one though 🎉❤
How interesting! I am making gingerbread cookies in wooden molds today! The dough has been in the fridge overnight. It is my first time using these molds. I am hoping they turn out!
Oh my goodness! You look like Little Red Riding Hood!
What is Ron using to attach the holly leaves to the windows? Such a cute idea!
Great job guys. Merry Christmas
Everything looks delicious! I love lil' Ron's red jacket ☺️
Merriest of Christmas to your darling family! 🎄❤️ I can almost smell the gingerbread cooking, smell like home.
I love smoked meat… Does the roast pick up smoke from the fire?
Such a lovely family. I could watch these videos all day. Calming & quiet! So much noise in the world today.
Thank you for taking us all back in time, if just for a little while ☺️
P.S…All your stoneware is gorgeous! 😍
I love that tube you use to blow into the fire. So much cleaner than billows!
You so sweet a lvely baby ,greetings from the netherlands ,God bless you .
In my opinion this is the perfect show for children–slow-paced, intelligent, sweet, promoting creativity and thought. My kids love to watch with me and they are so engaged with everything, full of questions, and inspired for play (and real life cooking) later.
I imagine you didn't start these videos with kids particularly in mind! But compare this to the obnoxious drivvle generally directed at kids and you'll see why I appreciate this so much.
Everything looks wonderful ❤! I cook a lot outside(even in the winter) on my makeshift wood stove or my clay/brick oven and I actually have several of the same things you have. Caat iron is my favorite things! Some I was given by my grandma Hilda, great grandmother Melissa, my Daddy and have gifted some to my daughter. While I can't have a wood burning fireplace inside my little cottage ( local codes prohibit it) I do have an open fire pit outside on my "patio". Thank you for making this channel; this peek into a time that's important to remember ❤. Merry Christmas and blessings to you and yours.
1:48 I have been slowly but surley working on stenciling up the house. Every time that you see the dinning room it'll look a little different! Also 4:38 … what do you think about my briefcase? Merry Christmas everyone & A Happy New Year!
Thank you to those who have sent us Christmas cards this year! I am working on writting you all back. I thank the Lord every morning when I wake up and every night before bed for sending you all into my life. I am glad that our paths have crossed. Everything happens for a reason. Why do you think that you are here today at this very moment reading this? I hope that this video & channel help to make your days a little better.
