Nineteen weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 wasn’t enough to get on Doja Cat’s radar, as she appeared to have no idea who Ella Langley was during a Sundae Conversation interview over the weekend.
The Grammy winner did her homework on the country breakout star during a livestream on Tuesday night (Aug. 25), which saw Doja give an unfiltered review of Langley and “Choosin’ Texas.”
“I really don’t just give a f–k about country music and I don’t understand what’s so hard to believe about that. I never cared. I like that one Keith Urban song from 2004,” she said. “I wouldn’t say that I like her music; she’s probably a fine lady. I don’t care for that type of s–t at all. It doesn’t inspire me, it doesn’t make me feel good.”
Doja Cat gave “Choosin’ Texas” a listen for the first time during the livestream and she didn’t hold back with her opinion. “This is not my vibe, but she has a very pretty voice,” she added. “If this is No. 1 on the charts, I’m sure it’s on the radio. I could see them playing this s–t on the radio. I don’t like it, but that’s fine. It’s very earwormy it sounds like, it’s like catchy melody. I get it, and she’s pretty.”
Doja didn’t end up making it through the entire song. “The song’s not bad, it’s literally not bad. The music’s not bad, I just don’t f–king like it,” she continued. “Just ’cause I don’t like something doesn’t make it bad. I’m sorry, I can’t do more than a minute and 17 seconds of that. I’m not gonna play the whole song.”
While Doja hasn’t been up on Langley, millions of others have been fueling her “Choosin’ Texas” anthem, which notched a 19th week atop the Hot 100 on the chart dated Aug. 29. Doja Cat has topped the Hot 100 twice: with “Say So” featuring Nicki Minaj in 2020 and “Paint the Town Red” in 2023.
Langley’s run at the summit ties her for the longest non-holiday No. 1 stretch ever, alongside Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
