Fighting the Spread of Polio: Health Workers in Pakistan

Pakistan has launched a polio vaccination campaign in an effort to immunise 11 million children under the age of five. Despite recorded cases of polio this year and ongoing security threats, harassment of medical teams, and cross-border movement, health workers are fighting tirelessly to combat the spread of the virus.

Al Jazeera’s Kamal Hyder reports from the Swabi District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in northwestern Pakistan, where health workers are on the frontlines of the battle against polio. With at least six cases recorded this year, the urgency to eradicate the virus is paramount.

The challenges faced by health workers in Pakistan highlight the importance of global efforts to eradicate polio once and for all. As they continue their vaccination campaign, these dedicated individuals are working to ensure a polio-free future for the children of Pakistan.
