Title: The Path Forward: Gershon Baskin on Governance in Gaza
In a candid interview, noted peace advocate Gershon Baskin underscores the critical need for Gazans to take the reins of their governance. As the region grapples with the aftermath of a prolonged conflict, the focus shifts toward establishing a future that prioritizes the voices and needs of its citizens.
Baskin’s insights come at a time when international attention is fixated on the difficult humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. The Red Cross has cautioned that recovering and identifying the remains of Israeli hostages, alongside Palestinian bodies awaiting repatriation, will be a painstaking process. Israel has begun to release the remains of Palestinian individuals to their families in Gaza, honoring an agreement that has yet to see full compliance from Hamas, which has only remitted a fraction of what was promised under a ceasefire deal.
“The important thing is that Gaza will be ruled by Gazans for Gazans,” Baskin articulated, emphasizing the necessity for local governance that truly reflects the population’s aspirations. With the region’s complex history and the ongoing strife, Baskin argues that it is imperative for Gazans to reclaim their narrative and direct their political future independently of outside influences.
The post-conflict landscape is fraught with challenges, yet Baskin remains optimistic. He believes that by fostering local leadership and ensuring that decision-making is rooted in Gaza, the region can begin to heal and rebuild. This sentiment is particularly poignant in light of the harsh economic realities and social conditions that have plagued Gazan communities for years.
As global powers continue to grapple with the political dynamics in the area, Baskin’s message stands out: empowerment of the Gazan populace is essential not only for recovery but for creating a sustainable path toward peace. The voices of Gazans, he insists, must lead the way forward, underscoring a fundamental truth in conflict resolution—the best solutions are often those crafted by those who live through the circumstances.
In this pivotal moment, Gazans and their leaders are confronted with an opportunity to shape a future defined not by conflict, but by cooperation, community, and a vision that prioritizes the welfare of its people. Baskin’s insights provide not just a roadmap but a hopeful reminder that a brighter future for Gaza is possible when its residents take charge of their destiny.

If left to the EU, UN and the West Media, they would drag it another 50 years
I hope so…
23:59 – 06:09 there's no H@m@s army anymore 00:00: 6:16 they can keep killing Israeli soldier (or other factions as they just did yesterday) as long as they're there 😆. 6:40 the Gazans don't want H@m@s there anymore: well maybe that's why they (the army that does not exist) are killing people that disagree on the streets? UN/US or Arabs countries alliance need to step in and manage the Palestine territories until they're in a shape that people can actually have a job and a normal life (Israel will be very inclined to accept it), otherwise H@m@as will be replaced by another non-nonsensical extremist group and the conflict will continue.
A state that can only remain democratic by forcibly blocking millions of people expelled from their homes simply because of their religion is not a democracy. What is needed is not a continuation of Israeli apartheid but freedom, justice and equality for all.
when there is no Hamas anymore… who is executing more then 40 palaestiniens in the last 36h?
No Hamas army? They were just publicly executing Gazans earlier today lol
why would Hamas want to "play games" and risk aid being restricted. it is absolutely logical that the dead bodies of israelis will be difficult to find…
we all knew much earlier on that the US was the key role player in stopping the genocide, because they have the (military and financial) leverage..
No Hamas at all. No terrorists.
Why can Europe be ruled by Europeans for Europeans.
Israel moved out to the”yellow line” and immediately we see what “Gazans ruling Gazans” means…brutal public summary executions in the streets without trial. Hamas was always the oppressor in the Gaza Strip. Time for an international force to take over until the strip is deradicalized.
How sick is restricting food for corpses.
Weren’t they just executing people in the streets?
This "peace agreement" is a fiasco. It is a cowardly "cop-out" of the IDF and the US, because they could not succeed in "eliminating Hamas" as Netanyahu repeated on several occasions that the IDF will not rest until Hamas is "totally eliminated".
Instead, the IDF should have shouldered on to eliminate Hamas.
We hear of tunnels being blown up all the time, yet the network of tunnels seems as elaborate as ever.
The IDF and Israel have lost this war, sorry to say. Hamas as strong as ever.
Who is going to have the "easy task" of eliminating Hamas, as this Baskin dude is indicating??
Is this a joke or what? DW is totally crazy
Hamas seems to be executing civilians, and there is deadly fighting between "tribes" and between criminals. Gaza is a totally lawless society and the Israelis will use that to continue their genocide.
So easy for Gazan to rule Gaza ? Just look at the decades of troubles!
Analysists of nowadays 😂😂, Israel has fought for 2yrs and failed to retrieve a single hostage from hamas but is now easy to disarm them
There's no peace ✌🏾
It is just a little ceasefire
yeah it will be just like afganisthan, hamas will be back in power and will do a worst terrorist attack against Israel in a few years, the useless UN will send money to gaza, hamas will use the money to buy weapons instead of building infrastructure, and then the press will be defending hamas using the gazan people as a meat shield again
How mush money has the israel/palastine cost usa ?
ISREAL FATIGUE IS REAL…
6:10 Bs, everyone reported 7k hamas fighters returning to gaza and fighting other groups in gaza. So….
It won't last, just a big scam by Trump the Felon and Bebe the Butcher.
Shame on all the so-called pro Palestinians protesters
No aid money from Germany until there are any responsible people found to govern this place and Hamas is disarmed.
There’ll never be any peace between Israel and Palestine unless Hamas is completely destroyed militarily therefore Qatar, turkey and Egypt must stop financing and harboring them if they want a peaceful solution in this regard.
Let me get this straight. Hamas agreed to a deal, and now Hamas blames the Israelis for Hamas' inability to fulfill the deal, which they knowingly agreed to. Amazing how they're never responsible.
Where did DW find this guy?! He makes things sound as if the Trump Peace Deal is thought-through and possibly doable. If only it proves to be so.
7000 fighters are not an army but a regiment, they ex judicial execute Gazan on the street yet those pro Palestinian stood by?
If 7k fighters are not an army how many are? 70k? 700k? You sure have people with interesting ideas and opinions on your program.
Israel killed ovee 68000 Palestinians in two years. Thats what you need to highlight.
You have a better chance of wining a lottery than getting HAMAS to disarm. These are fanatic terrorist (maybe caused as a result of abuse?) that will not think twice about killing their own. This peace deal is a chance to rearm and regroup to fight another day.
2:48 there is no war. This is genocide. It’s not over until Israel has the land.
Agreed, those are the left over Hamas army that want to be known but they have no more security hostage. Trump was smart enough with his plan. 🇦🇷🇺🇸
God bless Palestine, Glory to Palestine in Jesus Mighty Name Amen, Salam Alaikum, wa Alaikum Salaam,,,,
Has the war ended in Sudan ?
Hamas has shown over and over that they are no friends of the Palestinian people. Bringing destruction to them and now executing them in the streets. Prayers that Palestine will work to remove Hamas and any like divisions from their land so they can finally live in peace, perhaps in their own State 🙏
So, DW gives a platform for a hamas apologist! Nice work!
Don't trust hamas, they are terrorists
