Tragedy Strikes Vancouver’s Filipino Festival: Community Mourns
On April 26, 2025, the vibrant Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver transformed into a scene of heartbreak and chaos as a man drove an SUV into a crowd, claiming the lives of at least 11 individuals and injuring many more. The Filipino community, known for its resilience and spirit, now faces an unspeakable loss, mourning the lives taken too soon and supporting those affected by this senseless act.
As details emerge, several victims have been identified, with their families sharing stories of love, laughter, and hopes for the future now shattered. The outpouring of grief has sparked a wave of solidarity, leading to multiple fundraisers aimed at providing support for the victims’ families and those recovering from injuries sustained in this tragic event. Community leaders and residents alike are coming together, reflecting on the impact of this tragedy and what it means for the fabric of their close-knit community.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident, with police confirming ongoing efforts to gather evidence and determine the motives behind the attack. The alleged suspect is facing serious charges, and law enforcement is working swiftly to ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
In a contrasting turn of events, as Canada grapples with this tragedy, the political landscape is also in flux. A federal election looms in the background, adding to the whirlwind of emotions and challenges facing the nation. Eric Sorensen provides insight into how Canada reached this critical juncture, emphasizing the interconnectedness of national events as they unfold.
Meanwhile, a major power outage has further disrupted life across Spain, Portugal, and parts of France, causing chaos and frustration as subway systems and traffic signals have failed. Dawna Friesen reports on the blackout, detailing its causes and the implications for daily life in these nations.
As Vancouver processes this profound loss, the strength and unity of the Filipino community will be essential in the coming days, reminding all of humanity’s ability to support one another in even the darkest of times.

That’s Vancouver police tho. Only thing they do is find someone who drives good car and give them tickets. Rip poor ppl
Condolence to all the families that’s involved, got to be so of the charts , so sorry 😢 🇨🇦
Media taking the focus off the person: responsible and the reasons to why he did this horrible event. maybe look at Vancouver free drug program. Canada needs to pay attention to the drug issues and crime in Vancouver rather then hide there free drug program did not help. Police gave up with programs of dree drug studies. As bad as the media and her ill fitting jacket and scarf, nothing seems or looks right, just over done and tired, RIP
My heart breaks for these peace loving people. 💔
The real tragedy is how canada voted for more of this

As a Filipino, I am also sad, with my prayers and condolences to all, of the death of Filipinos in Vancouver Canada recently – “Murder charges filed after 11 killed, dozens injured as driver plows into crowd: Vancouver police” – during the Filipino Festival 2025, While this is indeed a very bad news, indeed, a crime of murder whatever might be the intention of it, whatever ,whether it's accident, and that the criminal who did this must be punished immediately, however, it’s also a warning to Filipinos there in Canada and elsewhere overseas to be very careful next time. I am praying for the repose of the souls of those victims and for those in the hospitals for recovery. Maybe, these Filipinos, inadvertently forgot to pray first to God before they held the festival. (?) Satan, the murderer, is like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour to kill. God bless you all!
Wow ended political great,.Now Philippines hate Canada now
