Hezbollah drone ‘swarm’ hits military, civilian areas deep in Israel
A tense situation escalated on Tuesday as Hezbollah launched a drone attack on northern Israel, leaving seventeen people injured and prompting fears of further conflict between the militant group and Israel. Israeli media reported that the drones were launched from Lebanon into northern Israel, with one drone intercepted and another falling in the city of Nahariya.
The attack triggered rocket sirens across several areas in northern Israel, raising concerns of a possible retaliation from Israel. Israel’s Golani Brigade, an infantry brigade, and the headquarters of its Egoz Unit, an elite commando unit, located in the Shraga barracks near the Lebanese border, were reportedly targeted by Hezbollah in the attack.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they fired a series of drones at the Israeli military targets. The incident marks a significant escalation in tensions between the two sides, with the potential for further violence looming large.
Al Jazeera’s reporters on the ground in Lebanon and Jordan provided updates on the situation, while Amir Oren, a columnist for Haaretz newspaper specializing in military and government affairs, offered his insights on the latest developments from New York.
The incident comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, with ongoing clashes between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza adding to the volatile situation. As the situation continues to unfold, the international community remains on edge, hoping for a de-escalation of tensions and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
