Intensified Fighting Between Sudanese Army and RSF in Sennar State

The conflict between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continues to escalate in Sennar state, adding to the already widespread turmoil in the country. Once considered allies, the two groups have been locked in a bitter struggle for over a year, with recent intensification of fighting in North Darfur, West Kordofan, and Sennar states.

The RSF, which controls many areas in the west and south, has clashed with the Army, which holds most of the east and north. This ongoing conflict has resulted in the displacement of over nine million people and has left nearly 26 million facing severe food shortages, making it the world’s largest internal displacement crisis.

Both sides have been accused of committing war crimes, and despite calls for dialogue and ceasefire, the violence shows no signs of abating. The suffering of Sudanese civilians continues unabated as the conflict rages on.

Reporting for Al Jazeera, Alex Gatopoulos brings us the latest updates from the ground, shedding light on the dire situation in Sennar state. Alan Boswell, the Horn of Africa project director for the International Crisis Group, weighs in on the conflict, providing insight into the complexities of the situation.

The people of Sudan continue to endure unimaginable hardships as the fighting between the Army and RSF shows no signs of resolution. The international community must step in to address this crisis and support efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region.
