Iran ‘determined to defend itself’ after Israeli strikes – US, UK and the EU call for de-escalation

Tensions between Israel and Iran have escalated once again, with Israel carrying out retaliatory strikes on military targets across Iran in response to a ballistic missile barrage earlier this month. Iran’s foreign minister has declared that Tehran is ‘determined to defend itself’ against such attacks.

Israel released video footage showing over 100 fighter jets preparing for the operation, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of four military personnel in Iran. Despite Iran downplaying the impact of the strikes and claiming they only caused ‘limited damage,’ the US, UK, and EU have all called for de-escalation and urged Iran not to further provoke Israel.

The situation has taken a toll on Gaza as well, with Israel’s intensive military operation resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people in northern Gaza over the past three weeks. The World Health Organization and the United Nations are now warning of a catastrophic humanitarian situation in the area, with almost 43,000 Palestinians reportedly killed since Hamas launched its terror attacks on Israel a year ago.

As tensions continue to rise, experts and world leaders are calling for calm and de-escalation to prevent further bloodshed and a worsening of the already dire humanitarian situation in the region. The consequences of continued conflict between Israel and Iran are grave, and it is crucial for both sides to prioritize peaceful resolutions and dialogue over military retaliation.
