Exploring the Gates of Hell in Turkmenistan
Join me on a thrilling adventure as I venture deep into the heart of Turkmenistan’s Karakum Desert to witness one of the most bizarre natural phenomena on the planet: the Gates of Hell, or Darvaza crater. This unique flaming gas crater has been ablaze for over 50 years, creating an eerie yet mesmerizing sight that draws travelers from around the globe.
In this video, I’ll give you a firsthand look at what it’s like to visit this infamous site, complete with its roaring flames and surreal atmosphere. But that’s not all—I’ll also be staying overnight at a nearby yurt camp, immersing myself in the local culture and the breathtaking desert landscape.

How tall are you?
It was so cold during ur night sleep that u got a little sick
cool man maybe one day l can visit Turkmenistan but is it really mandatory to have a tour guide with you at all times
Part of what is so fascinating about Türkmenistan is that it sits between the theocratic chaos of Iran and Afghanistan in its hermetically sealed desert stronghold yet owing to its neutrality ideology the main purpose of its security force seems to be to defend the regime in case of a domestic uprising rather than project power abroad. The mandatory tour guide (minder) system is a small component of regime preservation.
Nice hat
Yes!!
Chanel blanket😂😂😂
As always good work! Your vlog is really nice and a treat to watch!
I never knew about this location within Turkmenistan 👀 thanks for sharing Doug!
✨
Dude is wearing Giants cap in Central Asia. Takes courage to show pride in wearing a giants cap. As a Chargers fan I feel embarrassed wearing my cap outside Southern California. Keep going.
Really interesting, thanks Doug. Thinking of doing a 5 Stan’s tour?
I'm already missing the white city
Your Turkmenistan videos are the only good ones out there. Perhaps it’s because I’m an American and I understand your complexion more than others but keep them coming!! I’d love to see you make Silk Road videos and dive into the cultures and religions there. Like you sort of did in Syria telling a story, you are excellent at that.
The Stans are on my bucket list !
The thought of not having your guides in site in the middle of no where at night gives me anxiety
