Nikola Tesla – The visionary who invented our future | DW Documentary
Nikola Tesla, born in 1856 in what is now Croatia, was one of the world’s greatest inventors. He developed numerous innovations in the field of electrical engineering and was granted over 280 patents, many of them in the USA.
Nikola Tesla arrived in New York in 1884 with barely a cent to his name. He worked briefly for Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor of the light bulb. However, their collaboration soon ended in a dispute. In the years that followed, Tesla developed groundbreaking technologies and implemented alternating current systems for the Westinghouse company. These shaped modern electrification.
For decades, Tesla conducted research into high-frequency alternating currents and the vision of wireless power transmission – a concept that was far ahead of its time. He also recognized early on that solar energy would become one of the most important sources of energy in the future. However, his visionary inventions were not fully realized during his lifetime.
Tesla’s life was marked by extremes: periods of abject poverty and professional setbacks alternated with an eccentric lifestyle that’s been heavily mythologized. In 1943, he died alone and destitute in a New York hotel.

GREAT Documentary —–thanks a ton !
The legacy of Tesla (and Westinghouse that also has an interesting story) will last for centuries; got hooked in high school learning about Nikola Tesla and we made a Tesla coil as a school project. I was impressed with the biography of 'Nikola Tesla: A Man Out of Time' especially the remote controlled boat in 1898 (the US Navy declined using it at that time) that was in essence a PLL (I think) somewhat resilient to jamming, mechanical logic circuits that years later that were referenced when patents for electronic circuits came along doing similar logic, and of course the induction motors, etc.
Teslas Visionen waren ihrer Zeit weit voraus.
strawberry~
This is an outstanding story, well done
…and they burned his lab, stole his patents and destroyed his life for wanting free energy for the world.
Electromotor, radio, AC currents, X-rays, remote controller, Tesla's coil, …just to name a few!!
This genius work has been underrated for over a century!? Humanity better give a credit where credits due.
Nikola Tesla was definitely a time traveller from the future who travelled back in time and got stuck in this timeline. People have no idea how big a role his inventions play in our everyday lives.
These documentaries are all so misleading anymore. I'm an electronics engineer and expert in particle physics, Tesla's name has been used to spin fairytales at this point. His plan was to bounce radio waves off the ionosphere and then the charged particles raining down would power our ground based systems and devices.
That idea didn't come out with unpredictability and to put it bluntly, that would have likely been a very dangerous process because it would be injecting the entire atmosphere with huge amounts of consumable energy.
There's a lot of details in this documentary that are historically wrong and scientifically utter nonsense.
This is interesting.
I'm still amazed at how Edison's greed could overshadow Tesla's genius.
I always becomes delighted when someone talks about him….a real genius, but this world aint comfortable persons like him!!
Run everything you see and hear through a filter of greed and corruption and you'll start to notice disturbing truths.
🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷
Thank you Croatia for Tesla 🇭🇷🇭🇷❤️
I'll give him one thing; he's got a highly devoted cult following in the 21st century.
He went off the rails with his wireless transmission of energy concept.
why Why Why always modern politics has to be in documentary ……
He is not the inventor of the 20th century,
He is the inventor of millennium.❤️😊
He wanted to capture energy from lightning storms and store it underground. He built the towers, but he didn't know how to store the vast amount of energy.
Tesla was incredibly smart, but his wireless electricity idea was based on a premise that the ground and the ionosphere would be be good conducters of energy and full of easily accessible power. The facts we learned much later showed that it was never possible.
Tesla was just the guy, like Einstein, Marconi, and so many of the brilliant minds back then who took all of Charles Protius Steinmetz's visionary ideas and mathematical formulas. It was Steinmetz who fostered the development of alternating current that made possible the expansion of the electric power industry in the United States, formulating mathematical theories for all the engineers and it was Westinghouse who made it possible. Saying tesla invented our future that we live in now, is like saying in 100 years that Elon musk invented electric cars and the green energy movement
A+++
No one is denying that Nikola Tesla was a visionary, pioneer, an inventor. But, inventing our future? That was invented hundreds, if not thousands of years prior, when it came to WiFi, and other energy transference/conveyance.
Plate
Necola Tesla was a greater scientist than Albert Enshtind in humanity point standing…
Two red flags in this: Leonardo DiCaprio and Marina Abramović.
omg just read the comments all these bots thought that this was about tesla the car company lol… shows how much stock fluffing going on
you may want to fact check who named the car company tesla
He was amazing. If you search for – cintury – tesla's invention – you'll hear a great song about him
he was nearly 100 years ahead of his time…. In 1900, he forecasted about cellphones & in 2000, we had them…
The world needs less people like Donald Trump or Vladimir Putin and more people like Nikola Tesla.
Nikola wanted FREE electricity for every one. Thomas Alba Edison doxed him
Hail Nikola Tesla. A real human being.
Miraculously died, his building where he worked burnt down with all his work gone with it. Some even say the government confiscated it all beforehand.
Ironically, there's a pattern that has formed on creators of technology that threatens status quo of current technologies, anyone remember the guy who invented a car that runs on H20? He got turned away after presenting his findings, two years later he died, claiming "they poisoned me".
