Parts of Ontario are once again being pummeled by Mother Nature, as a spring storm bringing freezing rain and ice pellets hits the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on Wednesday. This latest weather event is adding insult to injury for residents who are still trying to recover from the ice storm that wreaked havoc over the weekend.
In Barrie, where cleanup efforts are still in full swing, tree removal crews are working tirelessly to clear away debris left behind by the previous storm. The additional 30 to 50 millimeters of freezing rain forecasted by Environment Canada is only compounding the stress for residents who are already dealing with the aftermath of the earlier storm.
Global’s Shallima Maharaj is on the ground in Ontario, reporting on the ongoing weather woes facing residents in the affected areas. The footage captures the frozen landscape, the slick roads, and the challenges that residents are facing as they try to navigate through the icy conditions.
As Ontario residents brace themselves for more freezing rain and icy pellets, it’s clear that this latest bout of severe weather is posing a significant challenge for communities already struggling to recover from the last storm. With debris still being cleared and cleanup efforts ongoing, the people of Ontario are once again being put to the test by Mother Nature’s unpredictable fury.

Thank you to all the workers who have been working around the clock since the weekend! My parents are still without power in Cobourg, Ontario. 5 days now!
Reminder to stay prepared. Take care folks !
Remember folks, our government will send all its money to Ukraine and Israel to help their citizens better prepare for every possibility, but they will not do anything in their power to help us see you must help yourself form a community stand strong together united we stand divided we fall.
Doug Ford brought this bad karma on us. Cutting power to innocent people backfired.

Sandwich yourself between emergency blankets (the ones that have reflective material on at least one side). The reflection material reflects your body heat back to you, so you can stay warm and cozy.
Amazing how it only took 10 years to destroy the Canadian dream.
More like "planned", not expected.
Amazing how many people are unprepared for this and depend on government to come to the rescue. We are on day 5 without power and are doing fine. Maybe this will be a warning to get people to prepare for the unexpected, but they won't.
It's Mother Nature punishing Ontario because Ottawa dropped the Carbon TAX ! LOL
Sorry Ontario we’re not helping you for voting Liberal! 🤪
PLEASE THINK ABOUT HELPLESS AND HOMELESS PEOPLE AND EVERY ANIMALS TOO PLEASE
He wasn't there in 1975. It was 3 days without power.

Hey Global News, lots of coverage on Barrie…what about Peterborough and surrounding communities? I’m on a little lake northeast of Peterborough. The devastation is 10 times this in a very large area of cottage country. There are still 10s of thousands of people without power since Saturday morning and the heroic stories of volunteer firefighters working alongside HydroOne workers and the communities coming together to help each other out are miraculous and life changing. Most of us are not seeing power restoration until Friday maybe?
