The future of household management is here with the launch of pre-orders for 1X’s Neo humanoid robot, designed to assist with chores. Standing at 5’6″ and weighing 66 lbs, Neo boasts padded joints for safety, soft washable clothing, and the capability to lift up to 154 lbs while autonomously performing tasks like opening doors and putting away dishes—though the latter is yet to be demonstrated fully.
Despite its impressive specs, there are significant caveats. Currently, Neo requires human oversight to execute most tasks, as a “teleyoperation” mode involves remote operators. Users will need to schedule these sessions via an app and can define “no-go” zones within their homes to ensure privacy. Additionally, the robot’s cameras are designed to blur out people, addressing some privacy concerns associated with AI technologies.
Pre-ordering Neo involves a $200 reservation fee, while the purchase price is set at $20,000, with priority deliveries expected starting in 2026. A rental option will also be available later for $500 per month. Early adopters are essentially betting on the company’s vision to transform domestic chores with a humanoid robot while contributing data crucial for its AI development.
