Six out of seven bakeries in Deir el-Balah shut down due to fuel shortage

Fuel shortage in Gaza has forced the closure of six out of seven bakeries in Deir el-Balah, leaving 1.8 million Palestinians without access to essential bread. The World Food Programme (WFP) has been providing these bakeries with fuel, flour, salt, and yeast, but with the current shortage of fuel, the bakeries are at risk of shutting down. This adds to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza despite ongoing ceasefire negotiations.

In addition to the fuel shortage, the residents of Gaza continue to face violence and loss. Overnight, five people, including three children, were killed in a bombing of a residential house in the Jabalia refugee camp. Furthermore, there have been air strikes in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis and artillery shelling in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

The situation in Gaza remains precarious as residents struggle to access basic necessities amidst ongoing conflict and violence. Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary reports from Deir el-Balah, central Gaza, shedding light on the challenges faced by the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip.
