In Canada, in 1999, doctors were alarmed by the death of a woman in her fifties who died of cryptococcal meningitis. In the following years, they treated dozens of other patients exhibiting pneumonia-like symptoms: shortness of breath, weight loss, and severe headaches. Following several studies and research, they understand that Vancouver Island is home to a very dangerous fungus. Veterinarians, in turn, reported dozens of cases in the animal population. The fungus does not affect a single species. Genetic analyses led to the conclusion that this new form of cryptococcus was identical to a common form found in Australia. Doctors find themselves with as many new questions as answers.

I have seen that green colour on the bark of conifer tree's while hiking in the coastal mountain trails from grouse mt. to Pemberton bc. way back in the 70's. maybe it's not the same thing or is it ?
Fungus amongus
I worked at VGH as a nurse in Victoria during this huge case load of all this. And Dr Polson. One of the best to work with 😊and Pamela Kibsy- brilliant
If this fungus is so deadly then why didn't the people, who did the reenactment, WEAR A MUSK????
I grew up on Vancouver Island, family lives there still. What a bunch of garbage. This is just a scaremongering video so people will stay away
Moral of the story don’t come to Vancouver Island. We need to build more igloos they keep melting. We’re full.
Probably a problem now because people got vaccinated for covid and now their immune system is compromised!!! Hello people open your eyes and see the obvious cause.
I realize that deadly infections such as this one exist. I am sorry for anyone who has neen sick or lost loved ones due to this infection.
I think that saying such things as .. too dangerous, stay away, don't come here .. is fear mongering by who knows who and a step towards totalitarianism.
We need to stay alert to control and use common sense at all times.

This was more than 25 years ago. I wondered if they find out more.. why only we hear about this just now?
we make sure the only place allowed and safe to go would be only in the cities
you are going to need a permit to leave the cities to go in public park under a permit and restriction different location
under surveillance camera with a barcode system
Please share this with everyone you can so that everyone stays away, I love my paradise here and don’t want to share it anymore 😅
terry cowan survived after going on motorcycling thrue cathreal grove bc almost died
There's a paralytic bacteria in the water on salt spring island, no fishing /swimming in some spots.
I am sure these scientists would be wearing masks to deal with this, unrealistic documentary, I am just preparing for a trip to cover the Island to do some Landscape photography and will definitely be wearing a mask at the very least. I live on the West Coast of the Island and glad I stumbled on this video.
Note..,don’t go to rathtrevor park…
"….make it (the forest) a mecca for outdoorsMEN"…… what, no women can go to the old growth forests?
This doc. Would gave been much bettrr if the persons involved in this doc. Wore gloves, face mask, and other personal safety equipment .
SO REPETITIVE IT'S FRUSTRATING!!!
Fear moguls
They want to take North America
Wow, talk about an over dramatization of the whole situation. Yes, I lived, played, camped, and hiked there during this time. I know no one (other than in the local news) who had issues. This would have been a better video without all the over dramatic dialog. A factual and informative approach would have been better than sensationalism, in my opinion.
Thank U 4 briefing us of a dangerous fungus that affected some 50 cases in Vancouver Island. If I could share with U a cultural drink that's really beautiful in flavour. We as Viets love to make salted lemons. The lemons R salted in a strong salty brine n is basked in d sun up to 6mths to even a yr. Because the process is sterilized, there R no traces of mould [fungus] But once d jar is opened n d content is used, a thick layer of
mould is produced like a thin layer of carpet. My thought of dealing with this strong fungus which can survive
high salty water content is to sterilized d syrup by microwaving it b4 use. 1 cannot know 4 sure that without
sterilization, that d fungi can survive in d body with some kind of immunity.
i live in on the island and know two people confirmed who died of it, one in the 90’s one in the 10’s but didnt realize it was a local phenomena. i spend alot of time in the forest 🙂🤷🏼♀️oh well.
Give your head a shake!
I have lived on Vancouver Island since 1976, love going through the forests.
None of the people I know have ever caught this.
Yes, be aware.
Don't be afraid to enjoy all that the Island has to offer!
Why do I think that this is BS
Labs spraying shit.
I only saw one patient in a 30 year career as a critical care nurse who had fungemia (fungus cultured from the blood) I don’t recall the actual name of the fungus, but the relatively young man had been living in the woods in an unheated trailer in a very dense wooded rural area. An anti fungal did help him and he survived
Why would you not have protected hazmat suits and masks while collecting samples??
Can this fungal infection be transmitted through breathing the same air as infected people or animals.
Wow. Collecting samples with no protection.
Jesus said, "Because I live, ye shall live also" (John 14:19).
I don’t understand why he travelled anyways without waiting to be completely better.
Something to keep in mind while out hiking and fishing.
Been to those parks and hundreds of areas in BC many times. It is all about the immune system. Unfortunate. There is a risk but personally I've only met one person with this fungal disease.
MDs are not great at analyzing medical problems because they don't follow normal screening processes and they assume commonality instead of beginning with where the person worked, parks they had been in, and screen for bacterial or fungus infection. Blood testing for white blood cell count and other blood factors would have been an intelligent method.
Gain off function stuff
"This documentary is brought to you by the protect Vancouver Island from visitors association." (Jk)
Should they not be wearing masks performing those tests?
Mold spores and nobody is wearing a mask while collecting samples?? Very strange. Interesting documentary though.
What a load of nonsense!! This kind of crap needs to be shut down!!💥💥
My first thought having lived on Vancouver Island, Victoria, etc, was Douglas Fir trees, Stanley Park,Vancouver etc. My favorite tree was the Monkey tree. My family has or have lived on Vancouver Island or Vancouver for many yrs and still there.
