A Freeze Warning has replaced the earlier Freeze Watch for northern Pennsylvania, as the first widespread frost of the season moves across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia tonight.
The National Weather Service offices in State College, Pittsburgh, Baltimore/Washington and Charleston have issued alerts for late tonight into Tuesday morning.
Freeze Warning for Northern Pennsylvania
NWS State College upgraded the Freeze Watch to a Freeze Warning for Cameron, Elk, McKean and Potter counties.
The warning runs from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Tuesday.
It includes Coudersport, Bradford, St. Marys, Ridgway and Emporium, where sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are expected.
Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Valley locations and sheltered areas will see the coldest temperatures.
NWS State College had flagged the freeze risk a day earlier, when the area was still under a watch.

Central Pennsylvania: Frost Advisory
NWS State College also keeps a Frost Advisory in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Tuesday for a portion of central Pennsylvania.
It covers Warren, Clearfield, Cambria, Somerset, Tioga, Sullivan, and parts of Centre, Clinton and Lycoming counties. Cities include State College, Johnstown, DuBois, Lock Haven, Wellsboro and Somerset.
Temperatures as low as 35 degrees will result in frost formation, and uncovered sensitive plants may be killed.
A cold front and gusty northwest winds are driving the chill.
