US is ‘destroying world order,’ says Ukraine ambassador

European leaders gathered in Brussels today for a set of crisis talks aimed at addressing the shifting global dynamics following Donald Trump’s return to the White House. With the US administration pausing aid to Ukraine and calling on Europe to take more responsibility for its own security, concerns are mounting that the transatlantic alliance could be at risk.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, delivered a stark warning, accusing Washington of trying to shift the burden of Europe’s security to European forces, potentially leading to the end of NATO. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine also attended the emergency summit, where European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reiterated the bloc’s unwavering support for Kyiv.

The talks focused on boosting defense spending and aid for Ukraine in its ongoing struggle against Russian aggression. Former Ukrainian foreign minister Pavlo Klimkin emphasized the urgency of the situation and the need for stronger support from European allies.

As the world order continues to undergo significant changes, European leaders are grappling with the implications of a potential shift in US foreign policy and its impact on transatlantic relations. The future of NATO and the security landscape in Europe hang in the balance as leaders navigate these uncertain times.
