Afghan Migrants and Refugees Forced to Flee Iran: A Growing Crisis
In a deeply troubling development affecting thousands, over 1.5 million Afghan refugees and migrants have been compelled to return to Afghanistan from Iran in just the first half of this year. According to the UN’s International Organization for Migration, this mass exodus, brought about by increasing pressures and hostilities, may soon escalate even further, with estimates suggesting that more than a million additional individuals could be forced to leave by the year’s end.
The roots of this crisis can be traced back to escalating tensions within the region. The situation deteriorated significantly in June after a brief but fierce conflict between Iran and Israel. Following this violent episode, many Afghan migrants found themselves in a precarious situation, facing not only the challenges of integrating into Iranian society but also rising hostility and discrimination.
The plight of these Afghan individuals is compounded by the economic struggles and humanitarian crises facing both Iran and Afghanistan. Aid organizations have been sounding alarms, emphasizing the dire consequences of this forced migration, including the potential for increased poverty and instability in Afghanistan as returnees find themselves in a country that is still grappling with the aftermath of decades of conflict.
In a recent interview, Dr. Khadija Abbasi, a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, offered insights into the precarious realities faced by these returnees. She discussed not only the immediate impact on their lives but also the long-term implications for both Iran and Afghanistan as they navigate the complexities of migration, integration, and conflict.
As the situation unfolds, the international community is urged to re-evaluate its approach to supporting both Afghan migrants in Iran and the returnees facing an uncertain future in their homeland. The humanitarian costs of inaction could be immense, as over a million lives hang in the balance.

Because the Iranians realized they were being used by Israel and are a security threat. Simple.
Iran deport only two millions Afghans out of 8 millions in Iran.
No Israel no University Protest 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Peaceful community showing love to one another again .
Relegion of peace 😂😂😂
One brother kicked another brother and third brother is silent 😂😂😂😂😂
After nearly forty years of living in Iran, Afghan immigrants are treated as second-class citizens and are deprived of minimum human rights.
i don't think we Afghan will be free from this hardships
😂😂😂 there are reports that anywhere from 60 to 85,000 Afghans went from Iran to Syria to help Bashar al-assad under the Iranian government orders.
It's just nice to know the rest of their miserable lives they can live in regret.😂😂
If they let the Afghan women get an education and be part of the workforce, imagine how quickly the country would develop. At one point, decades ago, they were far ahead of many of their neighbours. It'd be a slap in the face to Pakistan too, who were the ones who created the problem in the first place.
Because they got smart
I feel bad for them, their life has gotten worse
When Europe or the US does something like this, it's branded as fa**st, Na**st, or rac**st… but when Iran does it, suddenly it's just ‘national security concerns.👏👏
Nobody cares
"Why would iranian authority suspect them?"
Yeah, why would someone suspect a guy who fled his home after collaborating with Americans for decades? it isnt as if america was actively fighting iran………
Because in every country resources are limited. It's unlimited only in leftists dreams.
So Iranian people are supposed to welcome all the UN sanctions and 8 million Afghans because Europe decided to occupy Afghanistan for 20 years?
Germany and France Britain and Russia destroyed Afghanistan. Why don’t they take the Afghanis? You hypocrite Europeans
Russia occupied Afghanistan
Europeans armed the afghans to fight the Russians and when Afghanistan became a ruin they say to Iran take care of 40 million Afghans. What a shameless expectation
Hide children images!
Even Pakistan sent them out. Afghan Citizens should have fought for their Rights. Showing Taliban that they’re not wanted in their Country. They were provided with weapons, training, for to keep peace. But instead of fighting for their peace they surrendered. Or left their Country to settle somewhere else.
Let’s wait a bit like 5 seconds…. But the children in Gaza
Islam a religion of brotherly compassion and empathy 😊
Iran is just driving out Afghans for economic reasons and using security as a pretext. The Iranian economy is probably is very bad shape. Supposedly parts of Tehran are imminently going to run out of fresh water.
The fact Moose limbs would treat their fellow Moose limbs this way should tell you all you need to know about how they will treat you if you became the minority in your own lands.
I wish we had a similar item about Afghans in Germany and the state of their integration
Wow Islam always positive news 😂
Do they care?
Many Afghans convert to Christianity. I am one of them
