The price of eggs in the United States has skyrocketed to $6 per dozen in the first few months of 2025, doubling from the same period last year. This unprecedented increase in cost can be attributed to the avian flu outbreak, which has resulted in the culling of approximately 170 million birds across the country. With fewer hens producing eggs, the supply has diminished, leading to a surge in prices. The ripple effects of the avian flu are now spreading to other livestock as well, with the virus being detected in cows for the first time ever. This alarming development has raised concerns about the potential impact on food production and pricing in the near future. As consumers grapple with the reality of significantly higher egg prices, the underlying reasons behind the soaring costs underscore the fragility of the agricultural industry and the intricate connections within the food supply chain.

Just go vegan already. It is that simple.
I never thought eggs will ever be featured on Business Insider's "So expensive"… but here we are.
The prices went up because the elites need to sacrifices millions of chickens to their overlords in the other dimension to stay in power.
Whatever the reason is made up to hide this story.

French media: it’s because of muslims 😂
I just got my regular cheap-ass Kroger 18count egg yesterday. About $7. It used to be $2.49 last year, or something.. So…..
Not the journalist thinking she is some sort of spy…. Take the damn pictures lady, no one can stop you.
Mexico laughing at the US!
There are people actually creating conspiracy theories on chickens, it's hilarious. The situation itself is sad, but some people will do anything to get attention.
To protect the future generation of chickens.😂😂😂😂😂
I mean this is a uniquely USA issue even our gouge-y supermarkets here run by 3 corrupt capitalists are like 6 bucks lol (I refuse to buy shit that these places most of the time so I pay a much more reasonable cost for better quality)
years later we will learn like almost all virus this also came from china.
All animals we eat should have a hell of a lot more room ,per law, than is the case today.
The government needs to step up and stop taking bribes and allowing corruption inside the USDA.
Unfortunately, they will become even more expensive now that "Agent Orange" has announced his tariffs.
Hot tip: Something I learned from growing up in a household in which a family member was had an egg allergy is that vegan egg substitute powder is and has been cheaper than real eggs for a good while now (this makes sense as vegan egg sub powder is mostly just potato starch and tapioca). Even the fancy stuff like the Bob's Red Mill egg sub is cheaper: It's $4 a bag, and a bag replaces 34 eggs, for a cost of about $1.40 per "dozen" eggs. All you have to do to use it is mix the appropriate amount of powder with some water (the conversion ratio to real eggs is on the back of the bag) and pour the mixture into your recipe when the recipe says to add the eggs. This works in almost every baking recipe except for custards and egg washes, and I've never noticed a taste difference.
Egg free…nonsense.
Ten dollars for eggs?! That’s insane
I am Carnivore, as in I try to my intake of Carbohydrates & sugars to preferably zero. But frankly I would rather starve than see Animals treated in such an appaling way. Animals and plants are not unthinking machines. They have emotions and social awareness. These places are death camps driven by corporation profits. This stockade farming should be banned. For example their abuse of the very few antibiotics we have should be banned. There are much ways of Animal husbandary, go look at the stockman grass farmer on how to build an animal business's that works with Nature not against it. Other good YouTube channels include Richard Perkins in Sweden, if your Small State Republic watch Stoney Ridge Farm who is pouring life back into fields destroyed by Tobacco farming. We have a climate disaster but with Cattle we have a climate solution. How about we give up on central aboutairs and go bact to caring about our cattle lives. And save our lives from bird flue in the process.
Australia does have bird flu. Im about 90km away from a farm that confirmed it few weeks ago
It's a meme now
I'm sorry, but the segment with Heather, the veterinarian spy, seems very contrived and sensationalist. Taking pictures of deceased livestock from afar and analyzing the living animals behaviour from a distance doesn't prove jack whether these animals contracted H5N1. They could have died from a variety of reasons, and there's no way of telling without performing a biopsy on them. Showing us graphic images of deceased and decomposing livestock is really just to produce shock images instead of doing in-depth journalism.
AMERICANS SHOULD EAT LESS ANYWAY WHO CARES
now its very eggspensive
if and when egg prices come down… do you really think these business will also lower their prices? LOL
the price of meat has not gone up.
