Alberta Considers Cutting Services to Immigrants in Government Survey
This summer, Alberta residents are being prompted to voice their opinions on a contentious issue: the province’s approach to immigration and social services for newcomers. Through the "Alberta Next Panel," a government-initiated survey, citizens are encouraged to share their views on the province’s relationship with the federal government, particularly regarding immigration policies.
Among the provocative questions posed is whether Alberta should have the authority to withhold social services from immigrants. This inquiry reflects a broader dialogue about the province’s role and responsibilities in welcoming newcomers, many of whom have sought refuge and opportunities in Canada. The survey’s implications raise significant concerns about inclusivity and the social fabric of Alberta communities.
Supporters of the proposal argue that a more stringent approach could alleviate pressure on local resources, citing growing concerns over housing, healthcare, and employment for existing residents. However, opponents warn that such measures could foster division and discrimination, undermining the principle of equality that Canada prided itself on.
As the survey unfolds, Albertans are faced with the challenge of balancing economic considerations with empathy and moral responsibility. The future of immigration services hangs in the balance, as this critical feedback may shape public policy in the province for years to come.
The outcomes of this survey are not only pivotal for the government but also serve as a litmus test for how Alberta envisions its future in a diverse and rapidly changing society. As the province grapples with these complex issues, the voices of its residents will be crucial in determining the path forward.

To grow, Canada and Alberta need more people whether they are grown at home (make like rabbits!), or as is normal, invite immigrants. Absolutely, the needs of citizens must be catered to, but the Alberta government must NOT take on Trumpian values in this regard. Let Canadians not forget, unless you are indigenous, we are all immigrants. Alberta should also declare what and how much "support" immigrants actually get: as an immigrant to Canada over 40 years ago, I received zilch, other than an opportunity: to work hard, and make a better life. For this alone, I am eternally grateful.
No more immigrants. Put Canadians first
I’m in favour of it
Why should we go hungry because the communist liberals let in hundreds of thousands of ppl?
Great news.BC should do same.
Fluent English first
Ontario government could have learned something from this survey and follow suit.
you know what we need, we need to throw Daniel Smith out! she's not willing to work with federal government. She wants alberta to separate why? because she's in league with trump. She's manufacturing more criis just like teh nazis did. They manufactured a belief against a minority being a threat to majority. she is soiling something similar as trump same play book.
There’s no reason why the government should be giving so much support to immigrants while ignoring Canadians that have contributed to our society their whole lives
If immigrants are not here, canada economy is nothing, because canadians dont like minimum wage plus they are lazy.
Stop having just fur babies. Actually have kids to help populate. This way you wouldn't have to bring in so many immigrants
Sounds like Maple MAGA
You're all mixing up refugees with immigrants. Refugees don't pay income taxes unless they work. Immigrants pay income tax because they came here to work. Everyone pay sale taxes whenever they pay to buy something. Daniel Smith is trying to feed the haters again. She needs to stop voicing their ignorance
Totally agree……
Racist much!
So many misconceptions about immigration and so much racism and needing someone to blame for personal grievances in these comments smh.
When the federal government fails so completely and utterly, the provinces are obligated to act. They should be anyway.
Good for you Alberta
. Smart move it will stop flow of illegal influx..
Except for white immigrants 😂
The next move is to not use a Canadian passport anymore and create a new Alberta passport to travel to other provinces. lol
come here and work and not think that we owe you something
So AB wants more immigrants but less immigrants and no services for immigrants. Make it make sense.
Any Criminal Charges and they go back home. The whole Family. Not just one. I know where I live and they seem to have a BMW or an AUDI all the time. Money is coming from somewhere. One time and get them ALL out!
Wait…racist dani? Noooooooo way😮
Great news. And shame on GloBULL for the thumbnail. Disgusting organization
Immigrants come to the country through a vetting process which counts skills and cash in their pockets or a job offer. Refugees come to the country through need, the vetting process is on the security front.
I've watched immigrants from developed Countries come to Canada and get handouts. Help with housing, job assistance and an allowance. No other Country is doing this!
This is a good idea.
Alberta is beginning to sound like our neighbour to the South. This has to be nipped in the bud. This is not how Canada behaves!
Move out of Alberta
If they don't b pay taxes then I will agree on this
When an inept majority falters, they scapegoat a vulnerable minority—no surprise that immigrants become targets whenever the economy sours.
Daniel is the smartest and most pragmatic premier by a landslide.
Stop the rasisim and hire real Canadians.
Cut the services!!! Immigrants shouldn't be receiving mountains of cash and housing while real Canadians struggle
Bus all the new immigrants to Ottawa. Cutting services they never should of had is a no brainer
1:24 yeah they come with the work permit… flippantly given to them without proper background, checking and then shake it all over the country. my gosh, have you seen Surrey and Branford it looks like India’s capital in both those cities.
Legal immigrants are not the problem it’s all the other ways people are using to get into the country and stay. Stop all this asylum seekers nonsense and start enforcing the laws pertaining to foreign workers and students. When their visa expires they leave and don’t get to apply for asylum.
