Summary of Down to Earth (1947)
Down to Earth, directed by Alexander Hall, is a delightful musical fantasy that emerged in 1947, showcasing the enchanting talents of Rita Hayworth, Larry Parks, and Marc Platt. The film’s vibrant Technicolor visuals and spirited dance sequences create an immersive experience that not only entertains but also transports audiences to a world where the divine meets the mundane.
At the heart of the story is Terpsichore (Rita Hayworth), the Greek muse of dance, who descends from the heights of Mount Parnassus. Her mission? To assist a beleaguered Broadway producer, played by Larry Parks, in rectifying his flawed portrayal of the Greek gods in a theatrical production. As Terpsichore attempts to infuse divine inspiration into the project, the interaction between her celestial charm and the producer’s earthly aspirations complicates matters, leading to a unique blend of romance, comedy, and mythological intrigue.
Hayworth dazzles as the muse, her performance imbued with a luminous quality that captivates viewers. The film is also notable for its lively musical numbers, which serve to highlight the cultural influence of Broadway and the irresistible energy of dance.
In addition to Hayworth and Parks, the cast includes notable performances from Marc Platt, who rounds out the ensemble with charm and charisma.
The screenplay captures both the whimsy and gravity of blending myth with human ambition, making Down to Earth a charming exploration of creativity, romance, and the magic of the performing arts. This film remains a radiant testament to the golden age of Hollywood musicals, celebrating the eternal connection between inspiration and human endeavor.

Thanks for the upload . I haven't watched a Rita Hayworth movie for years and forgot that her speaking voice was like honey .. stunning. Some commentors here can't see past her coat.
Fun movie. I suspect that even the lowbrow version of the play would have to be redone and made ever-lower-brow if it were to turn a profit in America in 2025.
She was so beautiful and the costumes were amazing! Thanks for posting!

Rita was something else, great dancer and actress. Quite a bit different than her role in Gilda, which was very depressing and George McCready was in that too.
