The rejection of Trump’s plans was not limited to the residents of Gaza. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas senior official Izzat el-Reshiq both made statements denouncing the proposed takeover. El-Reshiq went so far as to demand that Trump retract his statements, warning that such actions only serve to escalate tensions in the region.
