Residents in Ontario affected by ice storm seek shelter in warming centres as temperatures plummet and power outages persist

As an ice storm swept through Ontario over the weekend, leaving many areas without power, residents have had to seek refuge in warming centres as temperatures continue to drop. Hundreds of thousands of people were affected by the freezing rainstorms, with schools being forced to close in some regions. According to Hydro One’s power outage map, over 390,000 homes and businesses were still in the dark on Monday morning, with the company working to restore power to these areas. In total, more than 532,000 others have already had their power restored since the onset of the storm. However, Hydro One has warned that some areas may not see their power restored until Tuesday or Wednesday. The situation remains dire for many residents as they struggle to stay warm and safe amid the ongoing power outages.
