Residents of the Kursk region in Russia are facing a dire situation as they are being forced to evacuate due to a cross-border attack by Ukrainian forces. The attack, which began on August 6th, saw around 1,000 Ukrainian troops breach the Russian border with tanks and armoured vehicles, supported by drones and artillery. This is one of the largest attacks on Russia in the two-year-old war between the two countries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the Ukrainian army for their actions, stating that they were able to surprise the Russian forces and achieve significant results. The Ukrainian soldiers not only resisted the occupation forces but also managed to fight back in order to protect Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty.
On the Russian side, Kursk region acting governor Alexei Smirnov informed Russian President Vladimir Putin that local residents were being evacuated to safety by buses and trains. The evacuation was organized to ensure the safety of the residents in the face of the ongoing conflict between Russian and Ukrainian forces.
