Among the seminal albums celebrating momentous anniversaries this year is Tina Turner’s classic What’s Love Got to Do with It. Originally released on June 15, 1993, the soundtrack to the singer-songwriter’s biographical film by the same title is being repackaged in honor of its 30th anniversary. The brand-new special edition collection will be released on April 26 by Rhino.
The four-CD/1-DVD boxed set will feature the remastered original album on CD1, with CD2 sporting a compilation of edits, remixes and acapella tracks. CD3 and CD4 are comprised of Turner’s 1993 live show at Blockbuster Pavilion in San Bernardino, Calif. This remastered footage can also be watched on the DVD along with three music videos. The boxed set also boasts a poster and a 24-page booklet. Additional album formats include one LP and two CDs; it will also be available to stream digitally. What’s Love Got to Do With It (30th Anniversary Edition) can be pre-ordered here.
Among the key songs found within the 30th anniversary collection are Ike and Tina classics such as “Fool in Love” and “Proud Mary” (plus a previously unreleased a cappella version of the song), plus Turner’s biggest selling hit as well as her first and only Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” Released in 1984, the song later won three Grammy Awards for record of the year, song of the year and best female pop vocal performance before its induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2012.
Other musical gems include “I Don’t Wanna Fight” (top 10 in the U.S. and U.K.) and Turner’s cover of The Trammps’ classic “Disco Inferno,” a song she frequently performed live in concert but had never previously recorded in the studio. Also on tap are two songs from the late eight-time Grammy winner’s 1984 breakthrough solo album Private Dancer: the title track and a different remixed version of “I Might Have Been Queen.”
All told, according to Rhino, Turner has sold more than 200 million records and scored 10 U.K. top 10 hit singles and nine U.K. top 10 albums. Her albums combined are 20x platinum in the U.K. and 9x platinum in the U.S. In addition to her multiple Grammy wins, Turner is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and St. Louis Walk of Fame.
