Residents in the east end of Montreal were left with more questions than answers after a major fire involving lithium batteries broke out at the Port of Montreal. The incident prompted a lockdown advisory for residents as emergency crews worked to contain the blaze. The fire sparked concerns about the safety and handling of lithium batteries, which are known for their potential to explode or catch fire.
Witnesses described seeing thick plumes of black smoke billowing from the port as firefighters battled to extinguish the flames. The intensity of the fire raised alarms among residents, many of whom were worried about potential health risks associated with inhaling toxic fumes. The incident left many wondering how such a hazardous situation could occur in a densely populated area.
Questions about the cause of the fire and the protocols in place for handling lithium batteries at the port have left residents feeling uneasy. With little information available about the incident, concerns about the potential for future accidents involving dangerous materials at the port have only heightened. The lack of transparency surrounding the situation has only added to the uncertainty and unease felt by residents in the aftermath of the fire.
As the lockdown advisory was lifted and residents were given the all-clear, many were left grappling with lingering concerns about the safety of their community. The need for clearer communication and stronger safety measures at the Port of Montreal has become a pressing issue for many residents who are now questioning the oversight and accountability of those responsible for handling hazardous materials in their neighborhood.
In the wake of the lithium battery fire at the Port of Montreal, residents are left with more questions than answers. The incident has underscored the importance of stringent safety protocols and transparent communication in handling hazardous materials in urban areas. As the community seeks reassurances about the safety of their surroundings, it remains to be seen how authorities will address the concerns and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Lithium batteries are time bombs.
Big tabarnac
Lemme guess.. Israeli Jew?
Warning labels on E_V_s might be mandatory someday.

My first thought – all of the pagers/devices in Beirut with lithium batteries exploding. Scary.
Yes, lithium batteries are the answer, very green. 😂
Electric batteries better for the environment? Don't think so. Also what a terrible job at letting the people know about the toxic smoke.
So you cant put out lithium fires with water.
Canada's "green" policies are a misdirected, naive, bankrupting waste, they damage the economy, and they hurt innocent people's financial futures.
The data shows that the only thing that all these new sources of energy have accomplished is we now use MORE energy.
And we now invent unnecessary new "toys" to use it.
Doused lithium batteries with water? Are you insane?
Won’t be long for the insurance companies step into this electric car business with restrictions for these evs.
I hope everyone is okay and safe…
These batteries are incredibly difficult to put out.
Electric car are so environmental friendly 😂😂😂
Vote Conservative, and they will shut this EV boondoggle down.
She avoided mentioning the exact chemicals that the burning lion batteries release.. This is like news for idiots.. No big words.. Talk slow.. Why did the fire happen? Who was responsible for the fire ? What steps were not taken that needed to be taken to prevent this from happening again. Let's get some real news going on here people.
Lol. We don't want dirty oil from AB….seems like a good trade off
I'd be curious to know where the batteries came from…
clean energy
EV , right ?!😂
Slap EVs with higher taxes to account for fire hazard.
Johnson David Thomas Steven Martin Jennifer
Global warming caused the fire 😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Battery manufacturers are already aware that if you breathe in even slight amounts of smoke toxins, it can cause nuerologicals issues.
If you breathed in heavy smoke, then you pretty much will end up with COPD and suffer long term affects in the near future.
The toxins are so bad that there are major guidelines for plant works in the event of a fire.
Outside of the manufacturing facility's battery plants, you are at the mercy of the guidelines from first responders.
Yep, makes me never want to buy an EV. The fire department does not have the needed equipment to put out a lithium battery fire. How much will it cost to equip every fire station with the equipment to enable them to put out a lithium battery fire?
Wow. Hope all the stolen cars weren't affected by this interruption
Where were they being sent? Were they the replacements for the Hezbollah devices that were exploding?
Sounds like something everyone can 🤔 enjoy in any large city hey Guilbeault thanks for electric batteries 👍 NOT!
That's a lot of smoke for a zero emission device
imagine anyone can trigger lithum in electric cars 😊
The carbon tax will cover it, Trudeau's answer for everything.
Toxic AF!
More taxes will solve the problem.
Lithium batteries didn't speak French
Why didn't you use the alert on our phone???
