After decades of oppressive rule under President Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian people have finally succeeded in overthrowing his regime. The rebels’ successful seizure of control in Damascus over the weekend marks a monumental moment in the country’s history, leaving many wondering what the future holds for Syria.
Despite the implications this has for Iran and its proxies, the majority of Syrians are feeling hopeful about the changes to come. With Assad’s regime finally toppled, there is a sense of optimism among the population as they look towards a new chapter in their nation’s history.
To gain further insight into the situation, Global’s Miranda Anthistle speaks with Wendy Pearlman, a professor at Northwestern University who is an expert on the subject. Her expertise sheds light on the potential pathways Syria could take in the post-Assad era, giving viewers a glimpse into what may lie ahead for the Middle Eastern country.
As the dust settles on Assad’s reign, the international community watches to see how Syria will navigate this transition period. With so much uncertainty surrounding the future of the nation, all eyes are on the Syrian people as they work towards building a new and brighter future for themselves and their country.

The future will be like Libya in chaos, courtesy of the West and their hegemonic agenda.
Assad will not be replaced with a democracy. This woman is being naïve!
Assad supporters flooding in the comments
This is not going to end up well for the people of Syria. Assad was bad but the forces now taking control of Syria are far worse. Question where was the funding coming from for those Rebels? Iran maybe, Turkey Maybe, Remember all the billions Biden gave to Iran in the past few years. I remember a former president saying that they were fighting ISIL and yet he goes out and makes a public statement that they are speeding up the funding and training of ISIL forces. Then he goes about and make a nearly fatal nuclear agreement with Iran, And the leaders of Iran are about as congruent in their words as that former president and claim that their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only? January 20 cannot come soon enough. This is bad for the people of Syria make no mistake.
cia agents tell every news agency what to say its shameful.
Power in a country is like a cudgel, it always hurts someone but those who wield it decides whom it will be
Why NATO countries are behind supplying weapons and millitart support against other country's government to take over by Terror groups?????
And nothing will change how many of these uprisings have we seen and you get the same result, someone takes powers and abuses it. And the peoples suffering continues
Wasn't it taken over my Islamist rebels? I didn't like Assad, but I don't see how this is better.
Look to Libya what happened there. I wonder if they will make slavery popular as well. And why is the western MSM supporting the spread of terrorist groups backed by the US? I bet the war hawks in the US are happy, they will have some new wars coming up to profit the MIC. Who cares if people suffer
Soon America will be free from the Biden administration that has suppressed the American people for the last 4 years.
Secular society in Syria is done, it will run by religious extremist like in Afghanistan.
We have another same old American Game of over throwing a govt in the Middle East and having some Caucasian woman speaking on behalf of the Syrian people 🤡🤡.. some things will meve change 👹
What's in Syria's future???? A huge wave of those who left as "refugees" going back home with their families because it's now free and safe 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Russia will him with the aid of Trumpy
Different regime…same Trigger is what awaits these poor Citizens
Very happy for Syria!
WE DON'T CARE. COVER CANADIAN NEWS !
Funny how the naive and woke West is quick to celebrate, while ignoring that 90% of those "Resistance fighters" are actually of Al Qaeda, ISIS, originated in them, or are of other various Islamist factions. Not only that Syria is NOT "out of the woods" – They're literally heading right into the biggest freakin jungle ever.
Syria will have the same future as Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq and Ukraine.
Next Iran.
Another Regime Change Operation by the US…
Thanks Global News for giving us the pro Zionist take on the situation.

So does this mean that all those refugees can go home and help rebuild the country?
Assad flees, Afghanistan president flees, Iraq president killed by US…
Yet Ukrainian President hasn't left his ppl even being out numbered.
So what happens now with all the people that came here to flee their country in time of strife? Do they all return? Like I am very happy for them. All countries must be liberated. But there will be a lot of people wanting to know what happens next for all the good Canadian taxes did.
Who cares? This obsession with middle eastern tribal squabbling is stupid. Uhh… Glob "news" ….you DO know there are a couple hundred OTHER countries in the world – right?
