Embracing Failure: A Call to Overcome Our Fears | Aaron Kim | TEDxBC Collegiate Youth – Video

In “Why We Should Stop Hiding From Failure,” Aaron Kim delivers an inspiring TEDx talk that encourages young people to embrace their failures as crucial stepping stones to success. He shares personal anecdotes that illustrate how fear of failure can stifle creativity and hinder growth. By normalizing failure, Kim argues, we can cultivate a culture of resilience, allowing individuals to take risks and learn from their experiences. He emphasizes that each setback offers valuable lessons and opportunities for self-improvement, urging the audience to shift their perspective on failure. Through engaging storytelling and relatable insights, Kim empowers viewers to redefine their relationship with failure, transforming it from a source of shame into a catalyst for innovation and personal development. His message resonates particularly with youth, motivating them to step outside their comfort zones and pursue their passions without the fear of falling short.

Author Video Description

Aaron compares our fear of failure to running from the rain, using his struggle to master a Frontside 180 on his snowboard as a starting point. After many falls, he realized he succeeded not despite failure, but because of it — and that most of the pressure we feel comes from ourselves, not others. His talk argues that failure works like “mind rain,” washing away fear and doubt so we can focus on what really matters: learning and growing. My name is Aaron Kim and I am a 5th grade student. I like to draw, and I like to snowboard during the winter. I have liked it since I was young. I especially like to do cool tricks, like a Frontside 180 or some grabs. I hope to become better as I grow.

I love learning new things and having new opportunities.I enjoy IT and PE. I believe that we can be our better selves with the power of failure, and that is also what I’ll be talking about in my Ted Talk.

I am going out in this Tedx Talk, and I will talk about “Our Growth after the Rain.” In this Ted talk, I will talk about why failure can be so crucial for our growth, also comparing it to some of my own stories like trying to succeed a Frontside 180. I will try to explain why we shouldn’t run away from “rains,” and why we shouldn’t hold up our “umbrellas,” while comparing them to my own experiences. I hope others can get to know that we shouldn’t avoid failures, but we should actually take them in and be our best selves. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
