Retired American Astronaut William Anders, a member of the famous Apollo 8 crew, has tragically passed away in a plane crash off of Washington state. The 90-year-old astronaut was flying the plane himself at the time of the accident.
Anders is best known for capturing the iconic “Earthrise” photo during the Apollo 8 mission, which was the first color photo of the Earth taken from space. The image went on to become a symbol of the fragility and beauty of our planet.
In addition to his groundbreaking work in space, Anders also leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his wife, six children, and 13 grandchildren. Despite his passing, his legacy as a pioneering astronaut and explorer will continue to inspire future generations. May he rest in peace.
