In a breathtaking showdown captured by BBC Earth, a lion pride and a herd of buffalo come face to face in an intense battle for survival. The tension in the air is palpable as the hungry lions assess their prey, while the massive buffalo herd stands their ground, ready to defend themselves.
What makes this encounter even more thrilling is the presence of lion cubs, who have never swum before. As the situation escalates, the young cubs find themselves in unfamiliar territory, adding an extra layer of danger to the already precarious situation.
The odds seem stacked against the lion pride as the buffalo herd appears to have the upper hand. However, in a heart-stopping moment of near-miss, the lions narrowly escape the clutches of the powerful buffalo, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.
This incredible footage serves as a reminder of the harsh realities of life in the wild, where survival of the fittest reigns supreme. The resilience and resourcefulness of these majestic animals are truly awe-inspiring, showcasing the delicate balance of nature at its most raw and unforgiving state.

This is not a pride of lions. It's an embarrass of lions.
Do you think all animals in Africa know that there's always a chance of crocodiles being in any body of water, or were they just worried about drowning before reaching the other side?
It was interesting to see the reaction of the lioness, she knew what was in the water and whatever is in the water doesn't care that you're a lion, in the water you're the prey. The cubs didn't know this, I've seen similar behaviour from seal cubs, I wonder when the "fear" starts to kick in.
So lions are not kings of the forest after all.
That was so cute when one of the cubs clung to one of the lionesses as they came out of the water! 🥰
2:50 Such a sweet moment when the lion cub clings to his mom! ❤ He’s definitely not ready for swimming yet!😂
0:56 as usual, the king stood

I always been hearing that Lions are 'Kings or Queens Of The Jungle', but here, they're proven to be nothing more than 'Pussycats'.
Clinging to the mum's back is wholesome.

Big Toe’s a real Chad just lying there to slow the herd down.
He’d know he would get trampled or gored, but just held his ground anyway.
Homeboy knew the assignment and stuck with it.
By the way, this is a new series called Big Cats 24/7. The clip is from ep. 5.
I'm 4 episodes in already😊
There’s a reason Buffalo are nicknamed Black Death 💀 🐃
scared kitties
Gorgeous beautiful animals
That big bull Buffalo was after a fight.
It would need to be a huge Croc and very deep water for a big male Lion to truly be in a vulnerable position and that's real facts. 🦁❤️🔥💪🐾👑💯🤌
