When the Communist Party seized control of China in 1949, it implemented one of the most extensive propaganda campaigns ever organized, with the avowed aim of winning the hearts and minds of the Chinese population. MAO PROPAGANDA examines the figures and events that made Mao Zedong the star of this cultural phenomenon. Although particularly brutal, this is a well-honed propaganda campaign using a wealth of images and slogans that enabled Mao to organize a 25-year reign. Celebrated as a demigod by the majority of the population, the regime showed no mercy to dissenters. We will examine what created and perpetuated this mass movement and revisit the art that presided over the construction and near-destruction of a nation.
