The resurgence of the federal Liberals ahead of the 2025 election has sparked a growing desire among Albertans to break away from Canada. In a recent interview with prominent separatist, Dawna Friesen explores the reasons behind the push for independence in Alberta and how it is putting Premier Danielle Smith under increasing pressure. The movement for separation is gaining momentum as more and more Albertans feel disenfranchised and seek a new path forward.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to tariff Alberta’s oil exports has highlighted the need for Canada to become more energy independent and less reliant on the U.S. The oil and gas industry is hopeful for change in the 2025 federal election, as Heather Yourex-West investigates how the sector is looking for solutions to protect and support Alberta’s vital resources.
On the political front, Liberal Leader Mark Carney is focusing on improving Canada’s defence procurement process if his party wins the election. David Akin delves into Carney’s strategy to reduce reliance on the U.S. for military resources and how the Liberals are campaigning on a platform of change in this area. Additionally, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is making promises to strengthen prison sentences for mass murderers by restoring consecutive life sentences. Touria Izri reports on Poilievre’s plans to use the notwithstanding clause, and the mixed reactions from victims’ families and critics.
As the 2025 election approaches, the Canadian political landscape is heating up with discussions around independence, energy independence, and national security. The decisions made in the upcoming election will have a significant impact on the future direction of Alberta and Canada as a whole. Stay tuned for more updates on these important developments.

At this point, the AB vote may as well be a referendum to separate as a 51st state. Go ahead, say it ain't so.
No medical 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Albertan here. Lived here my whole 60 years. Personally i do not know a single person that wants to separate and infact they and we claim to be canadian first. Yes there is a lot of anger due to being alienate by the east. However, most albertans understand that when your house needs repairs you do not just burn it down. To those that want to be American.. please do us all a favor and move there.
This is definitely blown out of proportions but still entertaining to watch as a QS 🤣
I would vote to leave Canada if the Liberals win
Wow! Carney just keeps ripping off Poilievre’s mandates, yet to hear an original idea from Mark here
If you don't like Canada, Get out, find another country.
Jeff Rath is under investigation by the Law Society of Alberta. He is corrupt and a con artist.
This separation and 51st state is all maple maga madness, if you don,t like being part of Canada leave….
Most of the ‘Albertans’ that want to separate are not even from Alberta
Mark Carney has advised Justin Trudeau in the past five years. He played an informal role as an economic adviser during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping the government navigate economic challenges. Additionally, Carney chaired a Liberal Party task force on economic growth, providing recommendations to Trudeau and the party's platform committee2. His involvement has sparked speculation about his political aspirations and deeper ties to the Liberal Party. I'm voting Conservative..😁
As someone who has lived in both the east and currently the west, there is a definite difference in ideology. Bizarre how people are coming down on alberta while quebec was able to have two referendums while getting concessions. And it will just get worse when the liberals get a fourth term to continue to alienate the west.
11:00 love it. Canada can replace USA in leadership and connection with EU 🎉Good job 🇨🇦 Support Canadian manufacturing! Made in Canada.
Albertans are the only ones that can see that 10 years of Liberal rule are what destroyed the country, not 3 months of Donald Trump
All the more reason we need to support the Conservatives.
Bullsht propaganda
LOLZ no one I know has ever said this 😂😂😂
But oil can not pass through Canada, don't be fool
The media will seek out a fringe minority, do a sensationalist piece of so called journalism, with the intent of alienating Albertans, because many of them are Conservative. The liberal party and their media cohorts are guilty of divide and concur tactics. Some people will stoop to such a low level to try to win an election. As an Albertan I have endured 10 years of these trolls stirring up trouble and trash talking Alberta. One separatist doesnt speak for the whole province, and other Canadians need to stop insulting us as a whole.
Global you are Liberals and you can get out of Alberta
I am so thankful to be Canadian, our country may not be perfect but we really have a good life.
Anyone with any thoughts of joining the US regime must be crazy. It would be scary, he deports people to El Salvador and without even a hearing, to concentration prisons and is now talking about sending US citizens that he considers criminals to El Salvador, that is certainly not a country I would want to be part of.
If you want to be American then move to America leave Alberta be Alberta
Alberta does not have to join the U.S. Albertans and Saskatchewanians can form a semi-independent western union, still be a part of Canada, but control their own wealth policies. That makes sense for everyone. There is no purpose in continuing with Ontario and Quebec siphoning off the wealth of Alberta through oil and mineral taxes, that is insanity. The excuse of fighting climate change is simply a ruse, it was never about that. The recent science has disproved that approach, attempting to vilify CO2 was always a con by the Liberals, both in Canada and elsewhere. Germany and France have abandoned their anti-CO2 policies.
Lovely Donna ❤ nice that you’re going to small places & highlighting Canadian scenery across the country for us in addition to news. Good job 🇨🇦
Good
Vote liberal on say goodbye Alberta the Liberals lie, scam, and want oil to stay in the ground Carney isn't a Canadain he chinese
We don't need all of Canada and its leftwing ways, we can welcome Alberta into our union with open arms and joy same as Puerto Rico will be. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
ALBERTA separatists = The Mouse that Roared.

New It He is a Rich Lawyer So Brain Dead …. Has that lawyer Hear of Treason To His Country
Akins sucks Carney
We don’t necessarily want to be AMERICANS but we definitely want to be MORE INDEPENDENT
Alberta's PM has been running down Canada, so this is what you get.
Alberta separation is nothing without BC. Cascadia is more likely California, Oregon, Washington, and Mexico?
