A planned explosion on a film set near London’s O2 Arena has resulted in a huge fire that spread out of control, sending flames and thick black smoke into the sky. The incident occurred at a commercial site in Silvertown, with locals nearby capturing the chaos on video and hearing loud cracks.
The London Fire Brigade was called to the scene to extinguish the blaze, which started after a BBC World News lorry was set on fire. Witnesses across the Thames at the music venue reported hearing loud explosions and seeing smoke billowing into the air.
Footage posted on social media shows the fire burning before erupting in a bright orange explosion, reportedly the third eruption of the night. A witness described hearing “enormous and very loud explosions” next to their flat, with a shipping container also catching fire.
The fire brigade reported that half of a car and a lorry were alight, but confirmed that the blaze is now under control. The incident involved four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackling the fire at an open-air yard on Dock Road in Silvertown.
The Sun is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
