Pakistan Reports ’40 to 50 Indian Soldiers’ Killed in Shelling Incident

Tensions Escalate as Pakistan Claims Heavy Indian Casualties in Kashmir Conflict

In a significant escalation of military tensions between Pakistan and India, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar asserted on Thursday, May 8, that Pakistani forces have inflicted heavy casualties on Indian soldiers, claiming that “40 to 50 Indian soldiers” were killed during recent clashes along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border dividing the two countries in Kashmir. This declaration was accompanied by the announcement of the destruction of an entire brigade headquarters, marking what Tarar described as a “major success in conventional warfare.”

These claims come in the wake of intensified hostilities, with both nations exchanging fire across the ceasefire line. According to the Pakistani military, the conflict has resulted in tragic civilian losses, with at least 31 civilians reported killed and 46 injured due to Indian airstrikes and border shelling. A military spokesperson in Pakistan accused India of “igniting an inferno in the region,” highlighting the catastrophic impact of the ongoing military actions on local populations.

As the conflict escalated, Tarar noted that India has resorted to utilizing Israeli-made Harop drones—referred to as the “Rafale of drones” in defense circles. Pakistan claims to have downed 25 of these drones, employing both electronic jamming techniques and air defense systems to neutralize the threats posed by the unmanned aerial vehicles.

In response to the heightened tensions, the Indian Ministry of Defence reported that 16 individuals, including five children and three women, were killed on the Indian side due to retaliatory fire and airstrikes. With each side ramping up military operations and rhetoric, fears of a broader conflict in this nuclear-armed region have intensified.

As both nations remain on high alert, the situation is precarious, with international observers closely monitoring the developments. The protracted nature of this conflict raises critical questions about regional stability and the humanitarian impact on the civilian population caught in the crossfire.
